ArkInventory
ArkInventory (for The War Within)
:boom: Please ensure you are using the latest alpha version if you have the War Within client.
ArkInventory (for Retail, Classic, and Cataclysm)
ArkInventory's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".
ArkInventory uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.
You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.
Overview:
- user configurable window width and height
- separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing
- assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
- assign categories to the bar of your choice
- unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
- sort each bar differently if required
- user configurable bars per row
- sell junk items automatically or manually (delete available via a keybinding or right clicking when at a vendor)
- random pet and mount summons. can also assign a group of them to select from
Key Bindings:
- Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
- click on Key Bindings
- scroll down to AddOns > ArkInventory
- bind the keys you want to use

:boom: The NoLib variant
it seems quite a few people are somehow getting the NoLib variant from their download client when they didn't specifically ask for it, instead of the full variant, and its causing issues as they don't have the required libraries installed separately. Please ensure you are downloading the full. if you see nolib in the filename then its the wrong variant, unless you are actually installing all of the required libraries separately as well. If you have to you can manually download the full variant from CurseForge, WoWInterface, or Wago.
:boom: Junk Sell getting blocked
While auto-destroy remains blocked, From 30960 onwards you can setup a Key Binding to manually sell and destroy your items. Note that blizzard require one keypress per item deletion, so if you have multiple items that need to be deleted you will need to press the Key Binding multiple times. A message will be output if you have remaining items that can still be deleted.
:warning: Ensure you have backup copies of your saved variables file
Sometimes you cannot revert back to a previous version without a backup, especially alpha or beta versions, so before upgrading please make sure you have made a backup of your saved variables file
Your saved variables file is normally located at ...\World of Warcraft\_client_\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua
It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file. You dont have to do them frequently, just after you've made major changes to your config is probably fine for most people, but you should get into the habit of making backups because when it does corrupt you wont have to reconfigure everything from scratch.
If you have your download client set to automatically download alpha/beta versions you should definitely have backups.
A simple way to back up the saved variables file is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of ArkInventory or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-30900.lua, or ArkInventory-20191228.lua

If you have problems with sorting your bags, bank, void storage and so on:
1. Go to Config >> Controls.
2. On every tab change the dropdown menus Style, Category Set, and Layout to the names you'd been using before patch 7.0.
3. The dropdown menus Style, Category Set, and Layout MUST NOT contain the word Default. If it does, assigning categories to items will not work.

SHORT VIDEO (my old profile is named ANEW)
Using latest release,
I can assign items to CUSTOM categories, but not to any of the "pre-built" ones.
For example, i can assign a flask of strength to go into custom PORTALS category that i made, but i cannot assign it to the existing System->Gem or Consumables -> Other. It just ignores and stays at it's default setting.
download .14, you just missed it :)
I seem to be having the same problem as others and cannot reassign categories to my items after this mornings update
3.06.13 release has a problem, you can't assign many times of items to different bars.
I removed it and installed 3.06.12 and it works just fine.
You might want to look into this.
After struggling with the NO DATA message in my bank I finally gave up and wiped the addon data & re-downloaded. Everything looks to be working now with a custom blueprint, but I cannot seem to change an item from one internal category to another. (For example, Felmouth Frenzy defaults to Cooking but it does nothing when I try to assign it to Consumables > Food & Drink). Is this a bug or am I missing something?
I should add I have no problem assigning to custom categories.
thats a bug i just found, will be fixed in .14
I went through all my alts yesterday (too tired to figure out how to do one as a template) and had them set up how I wanted. Today's update has killed it, like you I cannot move things now. I had a pot for my pet battle stuff and now half of them won't go into it.
I have done what serious2 says, all bags are "unlocked" well at least the first 10 bars are.
In my old settings I had +40 bars, and now i can only see 10.
In settings I can see my custom categories and the assigned bar
but all my items have gone back to their default sorting category.
Am I doing something wrong or do i need to edit every item again?

Under the Blueprint all the dropdown menus contain no default names?
I think your problem must be with the Layout menu.
I was wrong before, I can see Number behind my custom groups,
the bars and items all have been resetted.
So the custom groups are still present, but the items and bars are all unassigned.
And yes, under Blueprint everything from Bag to Toy Box
has been changed to "anewbag (newly made sort method, catergory set and Design)
Even deleted the "default" ones from the list.
Edit;
Is there a way to restore my settings
with a back-up of a .lua file?
If so wich file do i need (since there are allot of them).
savedvariables\arkinventory.lua
make sure you keep it as eventually all the bugs will get worked out and you can just put that back in to get your config back how you had it
Restoring the back-up worked for me. Everything is as it was before. Cheers!
Question for anyone who knows:
The ArkinventoryRules_TSMGroup addon now has this message:
Does anyone know how to set up Arkinventory so it uses TSM categories to auto sort items the way the ArkinventoryRules_TSMGroup addon did?
https://github.com/arkayenro/arkinventory/wiki/RuleFunction_TSMGroup
Just make a rule without the addon I think.

I'm sorry, but I would have to emphatically agree with many others that these changes are not for the better. I honestly thought it was simply a matter of the addon still being horribly broken, but apparently that's just the new version of AI "working as intended."
The UI used to be easy to set up, and once I set up the default, I was done. I'm now having to go in and change 3 settings EACH for EVERY type of container (bags, bank, guild bank, etc., etc.) FOR EVERY CHARACTER to get my old settings back.
Seriously? Did we do something to piss you off and this is your revenge? If so, I'm sorry...I'm so very sorry. We're ALL VERY SORRY. Please forgive us and bring our old Arkinventory back!
I'd set things up from scratch, but it's like you decided to make things as unbelievably nonintuitive and inefficient as possible. I have two accounts and dozens of characters that I'm apparently supposed to configure individually, when I barely have time for WoW. You've actually managed to make the default Blizzard bags more appealing than your addon.
Thanks anyway for the several great years I spent using AI.
Not sure, if I am getting you right...
Why should you be forced to set up all characters individually? Log in, open the config menu, go to controls, set "style, layout, category set" to the ones you have previously set up or the ones you loaded on the first char and your're done?

Thats's at least what I did.
But well, maybe I just misunderstood you...
do you remember how much effort you put into getting it setup the way you wanted? was that instant? no it wasnt
the ui is actually easier to setup once you work it out (and it has a lot more options) - i know its very different and doesnt make sense right now, but it will later once youve had time to play with it.
yes, there were bugs in the conversion/upgrade code but i think those are all fixed now so if you had a backup (and you should have) then you could put back the arkinventory.lua saved variable file and let it upgrade again properly, then you wouldnt have to go through all this hassle.
patch days are always like this, you should be used to stuff breaking in really bad ways and have planned for it.
What are we supposed to do if we DON'T have our old settings?
