ArkInventory
ArkInventory (for The War Within)
:boom: Please ensure you are using the latest alpha version if you have the War Within client.
ArkInventory (for Retail, Classic, and Cataclysm)
ArkInventory's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".
ArkInventory uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.
You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.
Overview:
- user configurable window width and height
- separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing
- assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
- assign categories to the bar of your choice
- unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
- sort each bar differently if required
- user configurable bars per row
- sell junk items automatically or manually (delete available via a keybinding or right clicking when at a vendor)
- random pet and mount summons. can also assign a group of them to select from
Key Bindings:
- Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
- click on Key Bindings
- scroll down to AddOns > ArkInventory
- bind the keys you want to use

:boom: The NoLib variant
it seems quite a few people are somehow getting the NoLib variant from their download client when they didn't specifically ask for it, instead of the full variant, and its causing issues as they don't have the required libraries installed separately. Please ensure you are downloading the full. if you see nolib in the filename then its the wrong variant, unless you are actually installing all of the required libraries separately as well. If you have to you can manually download the full variant from CurseForge, WoWInterface, or Wago.
:boom: Junk Sell getting blocked
While auto-destroy remains blocked, From 30960 onwards you can setup a Key Binding to manually sell and destroy your items. Note that blizzard require one keypress per item deletion, so if you have multiple items that need to be deleted you will need to press the Key Binding multiple times. A message will be output if you have remaining items that can still be deleted.
:warning: Ensure you have backup copies of your saved variables file
Sometimes you cannot revert back to a previous version without a backup, especially alpha or beta versions, so before upgrading please make sure you have made a backup of your saved variables file
Your saved variables file is normally located at ...\World of Warcraft\_client_\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua
It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file. You dont have to do them frequently, just after you've made major changes to your config is probably fine for most people, but you should get into the habit of making backups because when it does corrupt you wont have to reconfigure everything from scratch.
If you have your download client set to automatically download alpha/beta versions you should definitely have backups.
A simple way to back up the saved variables file is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of ArkInventory or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-30900.lua, or ArkInventory-20191228.lua
no backups? not even the .bak file? youre going to have to set it up from scratch if you have nothing.
if you have a backup, then restore it and login, it should convert properly now
Hey there. Thank you for the hard work on the Addon. I am sure it's hard to make it work after such a huge patch...
I've been using ArkInventory for quite some years and have been always happy with it.
As I was getting some LUA Errors I dicided to make so called clean install (by deleting the addon and all saved variables).
Well, on trying to set it up again, I was a bit desperate. I was too dense to find out how it works now. Thanks to this post
Dude...what the hell.
I've been using ArkInventory for years. 30+ rules, tons of tweaks to make it exactly like I wanted. All of it, gone. New system is incomprehensible. I read the FAQ through twice, I still can't make heads or tails of how the new system works, it's incredibly confusing.
"Here's how to make a category set." What's a category set? "It contains all the data on which categories are enabled/disabled." What the hell does that mean? "Combine with a design and layout." Can I just assign my damn items please?
"You need to make a non-system layout." Ok, so...no option for layouts anywhere. Found it in Interface > Addons > ArkInventory > Config > Settings > Designs > Layout, which is a great series of clicks to unlock a core function of the addon. Layout ... "You don't modify them directly from here, you can do that via the Edit Mode menus." I can't use those until I make a layout! I just want to categorize my stuff please, but I love that you locked everything by default so that the addon doesn't work until you figure out how the hell to hit "yes, I'd like to use the addon please".
You took a great addon that I loved, wiped all my settings, and added an extra layer of difficulty into learning how to use it. I don't know what you were thinking!
This was an awful change.
Thank you to everyone who spent hours messing around with this, so the rest of us can actually use it again.
Yeah, I have to second the complains about the UI changes, sometimes simplicity is better. I loved the old style.
Maybe a bug, maybe intended. Baleful items are being sorted together. I created a category for my healers gear and tried to put in a Baleful Scepter of the Peerless, however all of my baleful items of that slot are being sorted with it ( Aurora, Harmonious, Feverflare, etc"
AI is not showing item levels of the items anymore
Ok, after fighting with it a bit I got mine to work. Might I suggest posting a video with how to do the "setup" once you get past that it's not that bad.
I have to echo what's being said here. Could you maybe explain the benefit of using Blueprints and such over the way things were before? I enjoyed Ark for just being able to use the default Blizzard category tags to assign and sort inventory right out of the box. Why were the extra layers of Blueprints and Designs added?
I've been using AI for years and I'm just baffled why the author changed the behaviour so drastically. It's not user friendly without having to go digging around for answers.
Haven't found any easy way for my sorting to be default for all characters so rather frustrating having to do it on a per toon basis.
Love AI - please revert to how it was pre-Legion patch if possible!!
I deleted all of my settings and all of my numbered sections were locked so I would recommend to the author that this behavior gets changed quickly because it's really confusing a lot of long time users and new users. That being said here is what fixed it for me:
Go to settings and setup a new Design. I just typed "AAA" into the Add field and pressed okay.
Then go to Catagories -> Catagory Sets and do the same thing naming it either the same thing or something else it's up to you.
Go to controls and change the Style, Category Set, and Layout to those new Design and Catagory objects you created.
Now for the bad news you have to go into each toon and set those control settings for each person.
I love this addon to death but I'm really confused about this recent change in behavior....There should just be a default object created that we can edit with another default that's there to fall back on that we can't edit IF WE CHOOSE. I get why they probably made this decision because I am a fan on non-editable defaults but I think the execution fell flat.
I hope this comment doesn't come across as too harsh because I really do appreciate the volunteer work that goes into something like this. I'm donating right now to show that this is about caring not about complaining :)
I've read through a lot of posts trying to figure out how to fix this and this one finally worked. Thank you! :)
Hi, firstly thanks for your hard work trying to get this mod updated for the new patch, your time is much appreciated.
I'm getting some funny behaviour when I use the mod across multiple characters. I've set everything up on one character including the blueprint i.e. sort method, category and designs, some custom categories, assigned items to custom categories and assigned both regular and custom categories to bars. All of the sorting and assignment of items to the correct bars works on this first character. So I then save a profile with this set up.
When I log onto another character, I copy from the previously set up profile and then assign the right blueprint. However when I open the bags the sorting for this second characters only works intermittently and on some items. All the settings seem to copy over perfectly when I check them e.g. bars have the right categories, custom categories are assigned correctly etc. but sorting just isn't working consistently.
Hope this is something easy to fix! Thanks again for all the hard work.
What you are experiencing is exactly what I fought with for a while today. First, one of the last bullets of the author's Legion changes states that the profiles don't really matter. I also tried saving and loading them before I read that again.
What finally helped me figure it out was serious2's post (#6039) below. Specifically point #3: "The dropdown menus Style, Category Set, and Layout MUST NOT contain the word Default. If it does, assigning categories to items will not work." I had used "default" in all of my titles because they were there when I loaded (I just modified the names that were there). I created new ones, copying the ones that I'd already modified. Then when I the new ones without "default" in the names, on my other toons, all problems were gone! (Thanks again, serious2! And thanks so much Arkayenro for this wonderful addon I couldn't live without!)
Yeah I got the bit about dropdown menus, understand the new way the mod works. I've been setting the 'blueprint' elements to a custom one I put together.
What the profiles do seem to save and carry across are the bar settings and custom categories.
Still seem to have problems with sorting working consistently though.
Read all the comments, actually find the setup of the Style, Layout, Category Set, Sort Method etc. to be relatively straightforward.
Had it all set up and working, went to another character, set that one up too. When I went back to the first character the addon has decided not to sort anything, despite all the setup being there. Close and reload everything, now it sorts some items but not others.
I can have two pieces of armor for the same slot, of the same rarity and ilevel in my bag and sometimes the addon sorts one but not the other. Just reopened my bags to check something in config as I write this and everything is sorted again.
I'm having the same problem and it seems if I change just the style back to 9999 default, all the categorizing starts to happen when I reopen my bags. I just have no control over the scaling and empty bag space like I do with the style I created.
All I want to be able to do, which was the major difference between this addon and others, was the ability to sort via rarity. Your sorting guide is incorrect. It talks about clicking on Sort Methods on the left, which is not there at all in the new addon. My version is the current 3.06.12.
Please make it have this functionality again, or at least update the guide if there is a different way of achieving this now.
I found sorting under Settings > Designs (tab). Pick the design you want sorted on the left, then on the right the Window sub-tab. Sorting is under Style and has a drop-down list that includes one that does rarity first.
I have already done this, it does not sort at all.
Change it back to the way it was.
