ZoneInfo Classic (WotLK)
Cataclysm:
ZoneInfo Classic is being updated for Cataclysm, but depends heavily on LibTourist for zone and other data.
A beta version is now available that contains a version of LibTourist in which a most of the Cataclysm data has been added. Some stuff is still todo, like herb and mining nodes.
More updates will follow, please be patient ;-)
ZoneInfo Classic is an addon for WoW Wrath of the Lich King Classic that displays various information on the World Map about the currently selected zone.
The following information can be displayed (as text):
- zone name, color-coded (friendly, neutral, hostile)
- zone level range, color-coded to indicate difficulty
- fishing skills if the zone supports fishing: minimum level to be able to fish, minimum level to be able to fish without get-aways and the current fishing skill of the character (color coded to indicate difficulty)
- skinning skills, calculated value showing the minimum skill required to skin a mob of the minimum zone level and the minimum skill required to skin a mob of the maximum zone level (color coded to indicate difficulty)
- road connections, color coded (friendly, contested, hostile)
- transport connections like boats, zeppelins and portals, color-coded (friendly, neutral, hostile)
- instances including group size and level range, color coded to indicate difficulty
- flight nodes, color-coded (friendly, neutral, hostile)
- herbs: required skill level, color-coded to indicate difficulty
- mining nodes: required skill level, color-coded to indicate difficulty
- travel advice: if possible, a travel advice will be composed, using road connections and transports, to travel from the zone the character is in to the zone displayed on the map
Other functionalities:
- minimize button
- optional background with adjustable transparency
- adjustable panel size
- configurable through the WoW Interface menu, allowing to configure the background (on/off, transparency), change the panel size and turn information categories on or off.
- all settings are saved per character
- global settings template which can be used to copy settings to other characters
The information ZoneInfo displays on the World Map is localized.

In reply to MrFIXlT:
Good point! I fixed that for ZoneInfo 2 (the retail version) by prefixing the variables with "ZI" because I ran into a problem with that.
Will do the same for the Classic version in the next release.
Thanks,
Odica
EDIT: See next release
I'm currently using SimpleMap for Classic Era (non-BC Classic) - will this addon be compatible or possibly even make it defunct?
In reply to TuanTaureo:
Should work OK and if not you can use the WoW-1.13.5-release1 version.
I have tested the combination of SimpleMap and ZoneInfo on TBC-Classic and saw no problems. SimpleMap scales the World Map and ZoneInfo just scales with it.
I am unable to test it on non-TBC Classic because for some reason the Addons button is missing. How do you manage to install addons for non-TBC classic?
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
Once you install CE the path is ../WorldofWarcraft/_classic_era_/Interface/AddOns for the 1.13.x stuff.
In reply to Nechckn:
Ah, thanks! I guess the addons button is hidden if there are no addons at all.
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
It has always been a mystery- suppose that is one way of doing it, bit a greyed-out button with a tooltip saying ‘none installed’ would save a ton of confusion.
PS You are rock!
In reply to Nechckn:
Absolutely. My thought was that they wanted to make Classic Era an as-vanilla-as-possible experience with only the original game functionality and no addons whatsoever :-P
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
It works wonderfully! =D Thank you very much.
In reply to TuanTaureo:
Great! You're welcome :-)
Hi, any progress on the TBC version? Missing this great addon! Many thanks.
In reply to HoorMaister:
Hi, I am currently working on updating the underlying LibTourist Classic library, which is quite some work but almost done. Soon after releasing the library I will release an update of ZoneInfo, containing the updated lib.
By the way, if you allow the current version of ZoneInfo to load as an 'outdated addon', it works without problems in Wow Classic TBC. It just doesn't show TBC related data yet.
Odica
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
Thanks for the reply, super useful addon! <3
In reply to HoorMaister:
An alpha version of ZoneInfo Classic is available for 2.5.1, containing an alpha version of LibTourist; feel free to test it.
There are still some todo's for LibTourist, so if you spot something that's missing or incorrect, please let me know :-)
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
Ok, so I installed the alpha version. It works perfectly in the old zones, but shows nothing in Azuremyst Isle, Bloodmyst Isle or the Exodar. It shows the name for each zone, just no detail.
In reply to HoorMaister:
Hi,
Herbs and mining nodes still have to be added to LibTourist for these zones, same goes for the Blood Elf zones. So, some data is missing indeed.
However, other data should be displayed, if applicable: Zone level, Fishing skill, Transports, Road connections and Flight nodes.
Ofcourse, this data will not be displayed if you have turned off these categories in the Addon Settings dialog. Can you check that?
Thanks!
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
I've just completely removed/deleted ZoneInfo Alpha then re-added it (I overwrote it last time). I checked the config interface, everything is ticked. As before, everything works perfectly for the old zones but only the zone name is displayed for the Draenei zones and no other information.
In reply to HoorMaister:
I assume you are missing all detailed information for the Outland zones as well?
Possibly you have another addon loaded that uses LibTourist Classic as well. If this addon uses an earlier version of the lib, and this addon is loaded first, then ZoneInfo will use the older lib, because that's the one that has been loaded - as libs are only loaded once.
And an earlier version of LibTourist does not provide any Burning Crusade info.
A way to test this, is to disable all other addons and only load ZoneInfo. If it then works correctly, you can find the addon that is causing problems by switching them back on one by one until the problem returns.
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
OK - I got it working, here's what I did:
I noticed my version of LibTourist Classic was from 16th August 2020. I checked for an update and saw it was updated 3 days ago so I installed the update.
This made no difference, still no info for the Draenei zones.
I then completely disabled LibTourist Classic in the Addon Control Panel, hoping that any other addon that was using it would throw up an error. This didn't happen, but now ZoneInfo Alpha works perfectly in all zones with this library disabled!
No info for Outland zones, but I presume this is expected for now?
I hope this makes sense to you. :D
In reply to HoorMaister:
LibTourist should not be installed as a separate addon. On its own the lib adds nothing to the game. Any addons that use libtourist (like ZoneInfo) will bring it along and load it for you.
So, remove the stand-alone installation of LibTourist and you should be ok ;-)
And yes, there should be info for the Outland zones...
In reply to Odica_Jaedenar:
LibTourist was in my addons folder and I didn't put it there, must've been some other addon that installed it (no idea which). :P
I've now removed it completely, ZoneInfo alpha now works perfectly in all zones. Extremely happy, many thanks! :D
