ArkInventory
ArkInventory (for The War Within)
:boom: Please ensure you are using the latest alpha version if you have the War Within client.
ArkInventory (for Retail, Classic, and Cataclysm)
ArkInventory's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".
ArkInventory uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.
You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.
Overview:
- user configurable window width and height
- separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing
- assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
- assign categories to the bar of your choice
- unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
- sort each bar differently if required
- user configurable bars per row
- sell junk items automatically or manually (delete available via a keybinding or right clicking when at a vendor)
- random pet and mount summons. can also assign a group of them to select from
Key Bindings:
- Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
- click on Key Bindings
- scroll down to AddOns > ArkInventory
- bind the keys you want to use

:boom: The NoLib variant
it seems quite a few people are somehow getting the NoLib variant from their download client when they didn't specifically ask for it, instead of the full variant, and its causing issues as they don't have the required libraries installed separately. Please ensure you are downloading the full. if you see nolib in the filename then its the wrong variant, unless you are actually installing all of the required libraries separately as well. If you have to you can manually download the full variant from CurseForge, WoWInterface, or Wago.
:boom: Junk Sell getting blocked
While auto-destroy remains blocked, From 30960 onwards you can setup a Key Binding to manually sell and destroy your items. Note that blizzard require one keypress per item deletion, so if you have multiple items that need to be deleted you will need to press the Key Binding multiple times. A message will be output if you have remaining items that can still be deleted.
:warning: Ensure you have backup copies of your saved variables file
Sometimes you cannot revert back to a previous version without a backup, especially alpha or beta versions, so before upgrading please make sure you have made a backup of your saved variables file
Your saved variables file is normally located at ...\World of Warcraft\_client_\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua
It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file. You dont have to do them frequently, just after you've made major changes to your config is probably fine for most people, but you should get into the habit of making backups because when it does corrupt you wont have to reconfigure everything from scratch.
If you have your download client set to automatically download alpha/beta versions you should definitely have backups.
A simple way to back up the saved variables file is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of ArkInventory or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-30900.lua, or ArkInventory-20191228.lua
just assign the empty > quiver and system > projectile categories to that bar, you dont need rules for this
projectiles might be under consumable, cant remember
Is there a way to toggle between virtual bag and normal bag display?
I have some macros for using stuff placed in specific bag slots (eg bombs, potions, etc) that pretty much require me to know where those slots actually are in the UI.
Alternately, an 'arkinventory' macro command that would allow the equiv of
/use [mod:alt] 0 4 [mod:ctrl] 0 3 [mod:shift] 0 2 [] 0 1
would work.
the only way to guarantee something stays in its current slot would be to open the bag changer window, right click on the bag you have those items in and disable restack for that bag, that should leave everything in there alone but you'll have to clean it up manually when required.
apart from that you could change the /use to use the item name instead of the bag/slot?
if you need to know which bag/slot id its in go into edit mode, click on the item and select debug
in classic, my arkinventory does not sort my bags anymore. it does not delete the empty slots,( e.g. after i vendor all gray items). when i press the sort button nothing happens. any ideas?
reinstalled a serveral times. AI is the only active Addon.
which version do you have installed? if possible make sure its the latest alpha (which is r859 at the moment) and see if its still happening
Toggle wearing then viewing offline characters, shows all empty slots for all characters offline but the current online character works.
Checked config settings profile wearing. Shows monitor greyed but checked. Save checked for all characters.
Help....
thats weird, i'll see if it can figure out where it broke
looks like inventory (wearing) data is no longer always available so i've changed the scanning to not run during login and logout
In reply to Arkayenro:
The current alpha fixed wearing problem.
Thank you for the great mod.
My Warlock is having a "unknown bag" error with ArkInventory trying to ID my 'Small Soul Shard Pouch' in Classic. Error reads:
"WARNING> bag [4] [1.5] [Backpack] type is unknown, queuing for rescan"
This runs constantly at present.
Any advice would be appreciated please?
Seems to have solved the problem - didn't realize that the "classic" files would remain in the addons folder. Deleted them, then edited the .lua file in Saved Variables by deleting "classic" in the first line, and everything is sweet and my profiles in classic now work :-D
2nd update: - didn't work changing lua file - so I just did as Arkayenro advised below and have had to rewrite some aspects that differed between my retail and classic profiles.
TYVVVVM!
Re classic import/export sync. Google found something in 3.06.04 but all I could find is an import button. Is there a way to clone the rules & design (or whatever I can get) to a second account? or import settings from retail?
there is an import/export but its not for the entire config, just parts of it.
youre probably better just copying the entire arkinventory.lua savedvariables file across from retail
Came here just to say thanks for support Classic - this is my favorite addon ever!
after the latest update my categories are no longer working properly, any easy fix?
So for example: in box 11 I have set herbs and cloth to be sorted into 11... however since the latest patch these items are now going into my uncatergorised section (number 1) here is my screenshot to show. (this is on retail) I have not changed a thing, and this worked until the updated version was installed today.

enable edit mode and click on the herbs, what category are they assigned?
I assume assigning custom categories to items being locked on classic is because it's still being worked on?
no, it works fine. its more likely youre using a system profile (one you cannot make changes to - thus you get **locked** everywhere), ie you havent set up one yet, or havent copied over your retail config?
In reply to Arkayenro:
nevermind, i'm an idiot xD
Hey, i had an idea for a feature.
When you have for example the bank open and hover over an item in your bags then it highlights the same item in the bank, would allow for easily checking if you already have that specific item in your bank.
Thanks for considering my idea :)
the highlight would pinpoint where the item is, but you can see if its in your bank, or anywhere, even other characters, from the tooltip (if you enable item counts there)
