PitBull Unit Frames 4.0

Pitbull 4 Config Menu

PitBull4 is a continuation of PitBull.

Differences from PitBull 3:

  • It's mostly done, but not entirely done thus why there are still only betas (despite this it is still very stable).
  • Documentation is written before functions
  • Much easier for third-party extensions.
  • Options will be much, much simpler. In 3.0, there's about 200 panels that you can mess with, it's overwhelming. I want to bring this down to somewhere around 10.
    • Layouts are defined deterministically and unit groups use the layout rather than ad-hoc layouts on a per-unit basis. This will make setting up your unit frames far, far easier.
    • Due to some decisions made, 4.0 is actually more configurable than 3.0. As a layout designer, you will have a lot more control over how things look. You can have different fonts on the same frame, different textures, more precise positioning, and a whole slough of other things.
  • CPU Efficiency will be taken much more seriously.
  • It uses Ace3 instead of Rock.

Can you confirm that you intend to continue this project into 4.0 / Cataclysm? Im preparing my addons and need to know if this project will get updated :)

There are two ways of getting the raid icons. One is Interface\TargetingFrame\UI-RaidTargetingIcons, this texture had all the icons in a single texture spaced out in specific locations. The other way is there are separate textures for each icon which are named like so: Interface\TargetingFrame\UI-RaidTargetingIcon_1, where 1 is 1 through 8.

Most of the older code uses the single texture and figures texture coordinates to use to only show the icon they want. Blizzard added the newer textures when they let you put the icons in the chat box because there was no way to do texture coordinates encoded in text.

The menu you're seeing isn't generated by PitBull4 but rather by the game itself. We just tell it to display the menu. We have changed the option for Set Focus to be Typee /focus to Set Focus so that people will stop complaining about that menu, but other than that, we don't change the menus at all.

I don't really understand why you can't find the code at all, it's in RaidTargetIcon.lua under the RaidTargetIcon menu. GetTexture and GetExampleTexture should be pretty straightforward.

We're using the newer textures and whatever you're using isn't providing them. This probably means the icons in text won't change to your new icons either.

Hello, I'm using a modified UI-RaidTargetingIcons.blp file. As you can see in the screenshot, the pitbull menu recognizes the changes, but the unit frame does not. I can't seem to find the relevant piece of code. Can someone tell me what's going wrong? Thanks.

@hatrick: That sounds like a decent enough solution, could you give me a few directions to help me make much such a custom fader module or post yours somewhere?

Yeah they made a mistake in a change to the restricted environment. Unfortunately, unless they test with addons themselves there's no way for them to know they broke something. And since most of the unit frames are all broken it's even harder for them to know.

The last patch broke the raid/party frames again. Not sure what bliz is doing with their restricted frames :/

@designingKnights, Hmm not sure then. I'll download the PTR and see if I can figure it out.

Yes, it's about half done but haven't been able to work on it today because the realms have been down all day.

Well I'm using v4.0.0-beta11-12-ga36962c. Is there one more recent? If so, where? I couldn't find it anywhere on here to download.

Also, before you ask, PB4 was the ONLY addon I had installed.

One other question, I asked this on the forums but I don't know if you saw it. Are you going to be implementing the eclipse bar for balance druids, like you have runes for DKs?

@DesigningKnights, You'll need to update to the current alpha. The unknown spell ids are to be expected. We haven't updated the Aura filters for all the class changes yet. This is typically one of the last things I do because they often make changes throughout the development process.

Logged into the PTR today for 4.0 and deleted my variables before going in, so I had a fresh install of PB4. My unit frame was a solid color, with no text, and there were a slew of errors given in the chat window: PitBull4_Aura: Unknown spell ID: xxxxx. Here's a cropped screenshot of what I saw. I don't know if this affects the cata beta as I'm not in it. This is just in the current ptr. PB4 errors
