SilverDragon - Rare Scanner
SilverDragon tracks rares. It will try everything possible to notice them and tell you about them.
How does it search?
Vignettes
Those little skull icons you see on the minimap. If one of them is a rare SilverDragon knows about, it'll yell at you.
Targets
If you mouse over or target a rare mob, SilverDragon will notice it.
Nameplates
If you have enemy nameplates turned on, SilverDragon will keep an eye on them to look for the names of known rares.
Macro
SilverDragon can also create a macro to target any rares that are known in the current zone. You can stick this on your actionbars as a button to spam while chasing after a rare, or bind it to a key. This is sort of a last resort.
How will I know when a rare is seen?
Frame
When a rare appears, SilverDragon will pop up a frame that you can click on to target it.
Warning: If you're in combat, secure action restrictions mean that it won't show up until combat finishes.
Sounds
You can choose from assorted sounds to play when a rare is seen. The sound can loop for a while, to make sure you don't miss it.
There's special settings for rares that drop mounts and world boss rares which you might want to call up a group for. If you're sitting mostly-AFK on a Time-Lost Proto Drake spawn, you probably want the sound that plays to be utterly ridiculous and go on for a good long while, to make sure you don't miss that sucker.
Messages
A notice can be sent to a number of places:
- your scrolling combat text
- your chat frame
- a channel in your chat frame (announcing it to your party, for instance)
- a popup window
- etc
Other useful things?
Custom mobs
In SilverDragon's options you'll find a "Mobs" section. In the "Always" section, you can add any mob you want to be scanned for. All you need to know is the mob id.
So, let's say you wanted to keep an eye out for Lil Timmy in Stormwind, to buy the kitten he sells. You would...
- Go to his wowhead page.
- Grab his id from the URL. It's
8666
. - Enter
8666
into the "add" field, and click "okay". - Play with your new kitten.
Yes, this example dates me.
Ignoring mobs
If there's some mob you don't want to hear about for whatever reason, just go to the "Ignore" section of the options. Again, enter the mob's id into the "add" box, then click okay. Bam! You will never again be told that Vern is up.
(Actually, Vern is ignored by default. But you get the idea.)
Syncs
SilverDragon will talk to itself. It can communicate with other copies of itself run by people in your party / guild, and tell you when they see a rare mob. (If there's a group of you camping all the Time-Lost Proto Drake spawns, say...)
You can turn this off completely, if you want to be private about it.
Tooltips
Some rares are part of an achievement. When you mouse over a rare mob, SilverDragon will add to the tooltip whether you've already killed it, so you know whether you need to rush for it.
Broker
SilverDragon includes a Broker plugin. It'll attach itself to your minimap, or a Broker container you have installed, and show you a list of the mobs it knows about in the current zone.
Other addons you may find useful
- AppearanceTooltip integrates with the SilverDragon loot popups and shows transmog-known status.
- ServerRestartSound: plays a sound when the server's about to restart. If you're AFK-camping for a rare spawn, you probably want to know about this.
- ObjectScanner: A few rares are hidden away behind interacting with world-objects like the Edge of Reality. These have to be localized individually, so you need to work out what they're called in your language and set up a watch for tooltips mentioning them. This addon does that bit.
- ButtonBin: a broker display. SilverDragon's minimap icon will show up on it (or any other addon like it) instead of cluttering up your minimap, if you have it installed.
Is it possible to disable the red flashing on the edges of my screen whenever a rare gets synced or detected? it's getting really annoying, and I can't find a way to disable it, it's not in the outputs options for SilverDragon, and having the edges of my screen flash when I fly through a rare dense area is an eye sore.
It is! You just have to go into the options, click "Outputs", and uncheck the "Flash" option.
Hello
First of all thank you for your great work.
But I have two feature requests.
1. is it possible for you to implement TomTom the way RareScanner does?
2. is it possible to have items like "Netherwing eggs" or "Mysterious camel figures" scanned as well? I tried to insert the item ID like a mop, but the addon did not react when I stood in front of an egg.
This would sometimes be very helpful.
For 1, I've put what I think you mean in the new alpha -- take a look and see if it works for you?
In reply to Kemayo:
Hello
Thanks for your answer, I'll try the alpha right now
In reply to Kemayo:
Good day
I have tested the alpha with today's update.
In Drenor the automatic scanning of the rare mops and the tom tom integration works great.
In Zuldazar and Legion, rare mops are no longer displayed automatically, only when I aim the mouse at a rare mop or target them with tabulator, tomtom is not displayed in this case.
I could not test vanilla etc. yet
Oh, and Mysterious Camel Figurines are doable, because they are NPCs. They're even already included, though I can't find any information on whether they still spawn in the 8.3 version of Uldum or whether you need to return to the earlier version for it.
In reply to Kemayo:
the camel figures in uldum are only found in the past.
thanks for your answer
Volume adjustments for the sounds would be great.
I'd rather not adjust my game's sound settings, just the settings for SilverDragon. The sounds I prefer for the alerts are all waaaay too loud for me.
btw buttonbin link above in the other addons information dead end link.
In reply to Dyeslee:
cuz it has the old www.curse.com url which is old ;)
www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/button-bin is now the new link he just needs to update his links on the description ;)
same as serverrestart and handynotes
wow classic 1.13.3
SilverDragon did not locate nor notify me of any rare mobs in Strat UD or Live when I ran these 2 instances last nite.. Did not put any kind of icon on minimap either..
I am using Chinchilla Minimap addon - I did not get any errors from either addon. Even after I target'd the rare mob, Silver dragon did not place a marker on minimap..
And yes I had the instance / dungeon option turned on.
Hello and thanks for your great work.
Unfortunately there is still a small problem.
The addon notifies about rares which are outside the minimap. This makes sure that you are notified, but unfortunately you don't know where the mop is and you have to search around forever.
Is it possible to reduce the scan range to the range of the minimap, or implement an option to do so.
thanks a lot
I'd love to see this integrated with RareAware, or at least spawn/patrol locations from Wowhead available with a button on the zone map. Thanks for a great addon!
i am having the same issue as peguinmeat as well it is not broadcasting to generalchat no more i havent done anything to the add on it just stopped working right did download bugrabber and have some codes though
My addon seems to have stopped announcing rares to the general chat suddenly. I haven't changed any settings recently. I've tried some troubleshooting and can't get it to start announcing again. Any advice on fixing this issue?
In reply to PenguinMeat:
i am having the same problem as well
In reply to PenguinMeat:
If this is in retail, and Kemayo will have to confirm if it is the cause, but Blizz disabled addons from sending chat messages in 8.2.5. Classic should work.
That's a shame. Is there any plan to update the macro to announce rares? It also no longer announces rares.
I'm using SilverDragon-v4.0.18c-classic in Classic WoW and have found that none of the sounds will play. I have enabled sounds, tried testing individual sounds but nothing would play, been out in the world and discovered a rare but no sound played when the SilverDragon target frame pops up, I've also tried testing the sounds within SilverDragon under the Options -> Outputs -> Test it! section by clicking on each of the five buttons but again, the SilverDragon target frame appears but there's no sound. Also tried disabling all other addons and loading just SilverDragon, but there's still no sound from SilverDragon.
