WIM (WoW Instant Messenger) v3
wow-instant-messenger
WIM (WoW Instant Messenger) is a World of Warcraft addon which brings an instant messenger feel to communication in game.
Features
- Whispers in their own windows.
- Chat in their own windows.
- Tabbed windows
- Highly configurable.
- History
- Copy and paste as:
- Raw Text
- BBCode
- Advanced, intellectual window behaviors & animations.
- Skins
- Emoticons
- Clickable web URLS for easy viewing. No more retyping a long url a friend sends you.
- Customizable sound options.
- Expose - great way to clear your screen of windows when you are in combat.
Known Issues
- Addons can not process messages while chat is in lock down. To get around this, WIM logs all events and then rebuilds and processes them once you have excited lock down. During this time, chat is routed as normal to the default chat frame so you don't miss anything. Unfortunately, /r and similar keybindings to reply during this time will NOT work. Allowing the default chat frame to handle these events cause severe tainting issues and breaks everything.
- Community Chat is now supported. It comes with limitations though because the sender name and message are protected and can not be read by addons or saved.
- No filtering
- No History
Addon Compatibility: (Always make sure you are running the latest versions.)
- Prat
- DBM

Posted Nov 5, 2026@ama83 Some quick testing, I am not able to reproduce this. It's working when I try to invite someone. I am adding a combat check trap to maybe make sure its not being called while you are in combat, otherwise, it is possible that GuildInvite is being tainted by another addon.
Do me a favor and check to see if you still get the error when WIM is the only addon loaded. I assume you are using the 3.19.x version of WIM. If you still get the error, also check to see if you get the error with 3.8.2.
Let me know. Thanks.

Posted Nov 5, 2026@gothicknight I spent some time trying to reproduce this. I turned on the swing timers and used a mage for both auto attack and spell casting while in combat and sending messages at the same time and am unable to reproduce this error. Its possible WIM is being blamed for the taint. If this is repeatable on your end, see if you can reproduce it with only WIM loaded. If you no longer get the error, it's likely that another addon is the issue. Also what version of WIM are you using? 3.19 or 3.18? Try the one you aren't using and see if you still get the error.
I'll wait what you come back with. Thanks.

Posted Nov 5, 2026@Odigo CopyToClipboard() is a function that no addon or macro can call. If you're getting this by right clicking a player name in WIM, we added a work around in the location shortcut. Right click it, there is a copy name option. It opens a text box where you can copy and paste the name. Its the best we can do unfortunately.

Posted Oct 11, 2026@user_pdlst4jyyioym8nf I'm not sure how I can help with this one. If there is something that the developer needs to make it work friendly with WIM i'd be happy to entertain something.

Posted Oct 9, 2026Would a typo checking feature be feasible?
Some addons perform this, such as Misspelled and certain forks of it. However, those addons break instanced combat and chained posts for RP typing addons like Emote Splitter and EmoteScribe, which is how I previously checked WIM messages for typos prior to Midnight when they began breaking instanced combat messages.

Posted Oct 10, 2026@lowercase_name I'm not sure what's involved in adding support for misspelled, but instanced combat messages can no longer be read by any addon.

Posted Oct 10, 2026@RealPazza Misspelled appears largely abandoned anyway and exists in several forks of that project. I wasn't thinking having support for it would be an option. Mostly, I was wondering if there was any feasible way that WIM would ever have a typo checking feature.

Posted Oct 11, 2026@lowercase_name packing a dictionary for spelling would be pretty intense. I played around with the idea once using a truncated db, but ultimately scrapped the idea.

Posted Oct 2, 2026i'm having an issue with WIM in the wow forever beta still hiding messages from chat, and popping up windows when i have those settings turned off. it's not throwing up any LUA errors or anything like that so i'm not sure what is causing this or if it's a known issue already. for context in case this is relevant, i've basically turned off most of the settings and the only reason i use the addon is because it's the best addon for storing history for whispers per character, which is very convenient as a guild master. i prefer my whispers to just be tabs in the regular chatbox, which i handle with chattynator. the only other chat addon i have is chattery and nothing else.

Posted Oct 11, 2026@sionnabhan I haven't had a chance to test this myself (it doesn't do it when I whisper my self). I'm not sure why the minimap icon would interfere with the pop rules either.

Posted Oct 20, 2026@sionnabhan same thing is happening to me, i think its related to the addon "minimapbuttonbutton", where you can do things like "/mbb uninclude WIM3MinimapButton"
