HandyNotes

Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple framework for showing notes on your map.

Use /handynotes to access options.

You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:

Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.

:nodnodnod: I installed all the relevant HandyNotes modules and spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out why nothing is showing up. Then opened a mailbox and saw it appear. Makes sense ... but ... importing from these other sources would be an excellent addition to this addon.

In addition to that Mapnotes-import-thing, any chance it could import from Cartographer? The author packed up shop, and this one at least looks simple enough to not need significant updating to work with new patches...

Didn't HandyNotes used to have the option to import notes from MapNotes? I see many of the older posts have been deleted, only four pages of comments are here for reading now.

I also have a request and I hope it's not a hard one for you to implement. Can you please add these icons to HandyNotes? These are from MapNotes:

Just installed this add-on and all the little plug-ins. Is there a way to activate the vendor and mail-box locations with out actually clicking on the mail-box or vendor first? Also is there a instance/raid instance location, or do you have to set them up manually? I used carbonite for a very long time and got used to the icons for dungeons and raids, so now I do not even know where they are... LOL
An if possible a dungeon/raid search box would be nice.

Also an option to create a subcategory that can then be used to toggle display of user defined locations.
Example would be "Dungeons", "Raids", "POI", etc... Where say I am looking to farm mats in my favorite locations, I could then unselected all the things I am not interested in then select the "Farm" subcategory and see all my little farming area notes. I see the interface has a drop-down box in it, but I can not get it to do anything, and this would be an idea place to add such a feature. Just need a way to start a new subcategory.

I like this addon, but there is one small functionality I would like to see: the ability to input the coordinates for a note.

Notes don't seem to be lined up to the correct map "level". For ex, when I go to The Underbelly, I see vendors that are only up on "street" level.

This is such a little nit picky thing but I would like to see it added in if possible. Cartographer use to allow the ability to change the colour of the titles for notes and also the ability to click on the map and add the note underneath where you had your cursor. It's not like these additions are need but it would still be nice to see added. Keep up the good work :)

Since I had a limited number of notes, I manually transferred them from Cartographer.lua to HandyNotes.lua. I initialized my HandyNotes file by setting a dummy note in each relevant zone (to get the correct zone abbreviations loaded), and then transferred the Cartographer notes across. You can find the HandyNotes icon codes in the HandyNotes_HandyNotes.lua file.

I used Excel to translate the Cartographer coordinates using the following formulas:
x: =MOD(cart_coord, 10001)
y: =ROUND(cart_coord / 10001, 0)
HandyNote.lua entry: =(x * 10000) + y

e.g.: For Cartographer entry [35508770]: x = 5220, y = 3551, and the HandyNotes entry will be [52203551]

I have Cartographer Map Notes dating back 3 years. If there were a way to import them into Handy Notes, that would be shiny. I know it probably means a great deal of work, but even if only a tutorial on how I could do most of the work myself...

Xinhuan, are you planning to update the version string so it doesn't require loading of out-of-date addons? I've been using it for a while and it all appears to work fine for me, it just makes me happy to not see 'Out of Date'

Some requests (from a former user of abandoned cartographer):
1. Can you add coords (cursor/char) to the map
2. Way to add a quicknote, like /hn x,y which just adds a star to x,y with no more dialog boxes, etc

1. If you use Mapster (a Look-n-Feel replacement for Cartographer), it has this ability.
2. You can already /hnnew x,y. A dialog box still pops up though, surely an extra click on the "OK" button won't kill you.

Since 3.3 zoneinfo (the level info about the country) is not working. Any ideas how to fix it? That was a pretty cool feature.
