Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

TBC version works for Wrath. Please add wrath version to curseforge.
Hello AllInOneMighty,
I tried this addon for the first time today and I really like it so thanks for your work. One question though: is it possible to set (default) Elephant settings for all characters? I'm talking about minimap button, chat button, amount of lines logged etc. Currently I have to set all these settings on each character individually and I would like to have just one set of settings which all characters use. I don't mean chat history btw, that ofcourse can stay character specific.
In reply to mmppssxx:
Unfortunately this is not (yet?) possible, you'll have to set it up for each character separately. It's a bit of a tricky one, here, because I can see people wanting to have different configurations for different characters, so I leaned towards having more flexibility.
I'm in Retail WoW and was wondering if there is a way to set up Elephant to log custom chats such as Dicemaster's talking heads? Is that possible?
In reply to Eleantha2:
Custom chats are supported by Elephant, so you should be able to do that! However, if an addon uses a specific addon channel to send data / commands, then Elephant will not be able to catch them due to how the API is implemented.
Do you plan to update the addon to TBC ?
In reply to nihlolino:
Yes, would like to see an update for TBC. Not currently working there.
In reply to nihlolino:
Also echoing the desire to see an update for TBCC. Elephant is an incredibly useful addon I've been using since TBC.
Thank you!
In reply to nihlolino:
I've had a bit better luck getting this working using the retail client version.
In reply to nihlolino:
I was on holidays, sorry for the late reply.
I will update it this week, probably tonight, so hang tight!
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
Thanks for looking into this. Great addon and excited for the update!

Fixed!
I have tried reloading and relogging my game several times, I have deleted my Elephant saved variables and confirmed the folder is in the correct location, but I am not seeing Elephant in my list of Addons to turn it on/off.
EDIT: I have resolved this by deleting my Saved Variables (both Account and Character level) and manually deleting the previous version of the Elephant folder from my Addons folder and installing a new copy as a fresh install.
In reply to fraerie_finetush:
What happens when you name change or server change or account change your character?
Name -- Server.
I believe either changing will stop / delete your Elephant logs, is this correct?
Does anybody have experience with this, or a solution?
I personally have never figured out how to download my elephant log directly anyways, separate issue.
In reply to thezanderley:
I just went to check something I was whispered yesterday and realised that Elephant had vanished again.
I haven't name changed, server transferred or account changed my character since prior to Legion when the Oceanic realms went live.
In reply to thezanderley:
Neither will delete your Elephant logs, however you may have to change them from one location to the other.
