PitBull Unit Frames 4.0

207 - Parent Layouts

What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?

After playing around with Pitbull4 I gotta say the new layout system is spiffy, good job. However I was wondering if it was possible to implement a parent/child system for layouts. For example the child inherits everything from its parent other than what you specifically change. Every other option could be set to 'inherit from parent' or something.

Or is this functionality currently implemented and I missed it?

I was just about to post a ticket about this, but luckily found one had already been written.
I believe the way you've set up PB4 paves the way to add support for layout inheritance. It just seems like a logical addition to an already elegant configuration philosophy.
What brought this idea on for me was while I was setting up several secondary units (player pet, target target, focus, and focus target). I did it so they all had the same text codes for health, etc. I like these specific units to be less informative textually and really just want them there to see health/power/cast bars, shortened values, etc. I also added 2d portraits to them instead of 3d ones I had for the player, target, and party units. Then I figured I should go ahead and also change the sizes of these frames so that I'd have my pet unit really small, the focus unit considerably larger with more emphasis on the cast bar, and so on, because obviously you sometimes want certain units to really stand out. It occurred to me then that I'd really just wasted time trying to figure out a configuration that really fit all these different units, because now I'd changed my mind about a few details for each.
As it stands now, I'd have to make a new layout for each of these secondary units, reconfigure them all to what I'd set up previously, and then mess around with the other options. If I change my mind later on about what textual information I want to see on these units, or if I want to use 3d portraits on them all, I'd need to configure each and every layout accordingly. Counterproductive if you ask me.
Anyways, I fully support this idea, and I'll take this opportunity to congratulate you on a job very well done so far ckknight. Best unit frames addon I've tried so far, and an incredible improvement configuration-wise from PB3.
