PitBull4 is a continuation of PitBull.

Differences from PitBull 3:

  • It's mostly done, but not entirely done thus why there are still only betas (despite this it is still very stable).
  • Documentation is written before functions
  • Much easier for third-party extensions.
  • Options will be much, much simpler. In 3.0, there's about 200 panels that you can mess with, it's overwhelming. I want to bring this down to somewhere around 10.
    • Layouts are defined deterministically and unit groups use the layout rather than ad-hoc layouts on a per-unit basis. This will make setting up your unit frames far, far easier.
    • Due to some decisions made, 4.0 is actually more configurable than 3.0. As a layout designer, you will have a lot more control over how things look. You can have different fonts on the same frame, different textures, more precise positioning, and a whole slough of other things.
  • CPU Efficiency will be taken much more seriously.
  • It uses Ace3 instead of Rock.

    Guildies that had issues with lockups on encounters with bossX units all had the issues go away the moment I forced them to upgrade to beta10. Some had the same issues and werent running PB at all dunno how those fixed it. As for myself, my pre-beta10 builds only caused lots of lua errors, no crashes or lockups.

    @ulrich_ and @zoink2, If you're sure you're updated I have no idea why you're having problems on those fights. I'm not having any problems and neither are other people in my guild using PitBull4. Please verify your installed version by typing /pb in the game and checking the Version listed in the top right corner of the dialog. If you have beta10 then be sure to turn on Lua errors (and preferably install some sort of error tracker such as BugSack or Swatter). See if you're getting a lot of errors, which would indicate the problems.

    I'm having the same problems Ulrich is having: SERIOUS lag on two specific locations/encounters. At Gunship in ICC and Halion my screen seemingly freezes, but might move a frame or so after several seconds. One time it was like that for the duration of the Gunship battle, but it's usually a freeze and a DC.

    I took a wild guess since the only common denominator between the two encounters were the "bossframe" thingy in the upper righthand corner of the screen, and disabled Pitbull. Not had a single freeze after. And this was after consistantly locking up each and everytime the second we pulled Halion for four times in a row..

    Few things:

    1. 1. Thanks for the prompt reply, it was impressive, just like this mod.
    2. 2. I know I should have searched the tickets for something like this, but WAY too lazy. Maybe a search function in the tickets?
    3. 3. I was messing around with it again today and think I realized something. I only had a problem after I deleted the "Default" unit frame. I deleted all of them but my "focus" one and that was the only one I have problems with. I messed with some other things and found that the "Default" one reinstalled itself and no more problems, except with the focus frame. Hopefully that will provide a lead on the problem.

    @Shefki: Yes, I'm 110% sure. I deleted my old pitbull folders in the interface/addon directory and copied beta10 in.

    Could it be a combination of pitbull4 and some other addon?

    I meant using "|T..|t", not by modifying the results of the aura module.  Thus the approximation. I do this to add a third aura display: debuffs, hots, and shields.  And texts can be shown only when the mouse is over.

    As for the UNIT_COMBAT, thanks! That was easy; sorry I had to ask about it :)

    @Kitjan, Really he can't do it with LuaTexts, the frames get rebuilt on every UNIT_AURA and he can't guarantee that he'll get UNIT_AURA after the Aura module. So it'd be unreliable at best. I thought about telling him to do it.

    As far as the UNIT_COMBAT, just add it in the Modules/LuaTexts config section.

    How can i get a text to update on UNIT_COMBAT? It's not in the dropdown list, is there any other way to register a text for an event?

    @angrysteel: you can approximate it with some clever lua texts, though.
    @luarookie: read the ticket, there is a workaround in there

    @ulrich_, Can't say that I've experienced this. Are you sure you've updated to beta10? beta9 would generate errors on events from the boss1-4 events, that were never generated by WoW until 3.3.5. That would cause the problems you're describing and Halion does have boss frames.
