Prat 3.0
In loving memory of Jon Akthar (Sylvanaar)
Hello WoW community, I'm LuciferCatnip, Sylvanaar was my coworker and my mentor. It goes without saying that Jon was an amazingly talented individual. He always seemed to know everything… but he once said to me "It's not about knowing the answers, it's about asking the right questions", he always challenged me to ask me the right questions until I would arrive at the answer on my own terms. Jon was also a champion of the open source movement, and so with special thanks to Gil from Curseforge as well as Sylvanaar's family, there's no better way to honor Sylvanaar's legacy than to keep his project going strong in the community.
If you'd like to help maintain Prat, please reach out to MysticalOS or LuciferCatnip directly. Thank you so much.
About
Prat-3.0 is a chat enhancement addon for World of Warcraft.
It is made up of 30+ smaller "modules" which each provide additional functionality, and can be enabled or disabled individually.
In game, type /prat for a menu. Or use the icon on one of the many data broker hosts.
Prat has just about every feature you can think of, and then some. Really. When I get some more time, I'll try and put together a full list (Even I have lost count)
(Thanks to Dreamsight for this partial list)
- Sync your chat settings across your account (Beta)
- Machine learning powered spam filter (Beta)
- Change arrows, buttons, mouse scroll for chat scroll, scroll speed
- you can add player color per channel, color per level, color per class
- timestamps (styled)
- whether to show timestamp (what format the timestamp should be in)
- whether to show players level
- you can select the option for channel "stickys" (last channel you used you auto use when hitting enter, that sort of thing – or last thing someone said)
- change the looks of the chat's editbox - as well as where it appears (you can even undock it and move it to where you'd like it to be)
- chat fading, fading delay
- You can change the font to a list of fonts, add an outline to it, monochrome it (if you don’t mind messing with files a bit you could probably even add other fonts to that list)
- change the chat frame/chat box appearance
- Keep chat history between game sessions
- Set channel abbreviations
- set brackets and color(or something instead of brackets)round player/lvl
- alt invite option (press keyboard “alt” button and click on the player’s name to auto inv them)
- raid icon
- invite links - click them to invite the person
- URL copying
- Full chat copying + copy button
- Click timestamp to copy line
- Configurable alerts when your name or other word is mentioned
- enables tell target /tt which whispers your target
- Alias options - make macros into short commands
- See names of players Alt characters
- change chat sounds (incoming and outgoing as well as per channel)
- Achievements info and grats
- Full chat search and search box
- Customizable filters for advanced users
- Show item icon next to item links and player class icon next to player names
- Icon-only options for newcomers chat
- Optional flashing or font color change for chat tabs when a new message comes in.
You can enable/disable all Prat modules - don't have to have the ones you don't use running
While trying to reduce resource utilization, it is also important to note that some people prefer the features, and don't care that an addon uses 500k more.
I just updated to the alpha r924 from the project site and it seems to work perfectly. No more annoying "Name-RealmName" spam from people on my own server.
/rant What was Blizzard thinking, adding that as mandatory? I know what realm I'm on, and we're 99% guaranteed to never be merged since we're high/full and often have queues. *shakes head sadly* /endrant
Edit: Sadly I found a problem with the alpha r924. I moved where my editbox is (where I can see what I'm typing) and that reset to the default of under my chat window...which is halfway off my screen. =( I spent a while trying to fix it and make it look how it looked before and put it back where it was before, but as soon as I switched characters it reset back to below my chat window again. I fixed it again, faster this time since I remembered which settings to change, and it still won't save. Any time I /reload or log out it resets it back to the default and under my chat window again. =(
Have you experienced this issue yet?

By the way, thank you so much for working on the updates for this!
Hey, I had the same problem. The quick fix I found was to open the addon's folder found in the Interface folder (Interface\Prat-3.0) and open the file EditBox.lua in the "modules" folder. Then, remove the line #586 ( search for "e.history_lines = Prat3CharDB.history.cmdhistory and Prat3CharDB.history.cmdhistory[e:GetName()] or {}" and remove that).
Something else probably breaks by removing that line, but I've not noticed it and the edit box works like it used to.
Thank you so so so much! This fixed it!
ok so i really like he addon the only probelm is everytime i log off and log back in all the settings that i just custumized reset to the orginal settings how do i fix this?
Love this addon! Would love to see an update for it, the servername next to each name is annoying. I'd gladly donate for an update to this addon.
Keep up the great work!
Update to the alpha version of WIM. The source modifications i made are on a pc that was shipped in the moving van, i'll have to wait until it gets delivered
how do i hide the servernames from showing if the person is on the same server as me?
Same here.
OMG this. I'm on a server that often has queue times, so we're pretty much guaranteed to never be merged. I don't need to see my own realm name after everything everyone says in every single chat in game. >< (Not mad at you, I'm mad at Blizzard, grr.)
A thousand times this. Most annoying feature, ever.
I coded a change for this - but never published it. I have been caught up in changing jobs and relocating. I don't want to push out a buggy feature, and this one is not the easiest to test.
I'd be willing to give it a shot at running it for a while, try and 'beta test' it for you! :) The stupid server names are screwing up the creation of my IM windows (Using WIM). Blizzard really grummied up a good handfull of addons by forcing servernames to be part of the usernames like that!
If anyone needs the up and down arrow function back since Prat doesnt have it anymore you can install the addon called crappychatfix; http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/crappychatfix supposly it fixes that issue.
Is there a way to enable times stamps for the combat log?
What's the difference between "don't load" and "disable" for the modules? I assume Don't Load is more restrictive and just never loads them in memory, whereas Disable loads them but never calls them? Is the idea that you initially have things disabled then once you figure out how you like your setup, you set the Disabled ones to Don't Load?
Since the last patch, Prat does not add alt names to its database any more - I think it must be the -[realm name] change made in that patch. I reinstalled it on my desktop PC thinking it was corrupted, and lost all the alt names - on my laptop, however, where I hadn't changed anything, it still reports the alt names it already had in its file, but cannot collect new alt names as they are added to my guild. Any way to fix tthis?
I have the same problem, I really hope it will be solved soon
Previously, with Prat installed, I didn't have to hold Alt to scroll up through previous typed messages/commands. Since some more recent release of Prat (or perhaps WoW itself,) I've got to hold Alt to access the history.
Was this behavior changed on purpose? If so, is there a way I can get the old behavior back?
Thanks
