HandyNotes
Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple replacement for Cartographer_Notes and functions in a similar manner.
Use /handynotes to access options.
You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:
- Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
- Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
- Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.
HandyNotes supports plugins that other authors can write to display their own set of notes on the map. See this link for a list of such addons: https://www.wowace.com/search?search=handynotes
Changes for WoW 8.0 / Battle for Azeroth
- Changed to HereBeDragons-2.0, since HBD-1.0 is not compatible with WoW 8.0 / BfA
- All plugins that reference HereBeDragons directly need to adjust as well
- Due to the massive changes in the map and all related logic, HandyNotes 1.5.0 will introduce changes to the Plugin API as well. Changes listed below are preliminary, however they are available in the latest Alpha builds if running on the BfA Beta.
- Removed API: HN:GetMapFile(C, Z), HN:GetCZ(mapFile), HN:GetZoneToCZ(zone), HN:GetCZToZone(C,Z)
- Rationale: C/Z values no longer exist in WoW 8.0
- Removed API: HN:GetZoneToMapID(zone)
- Rationale: Using localized zone names is generally a bad idea, and the old MapIDs no longer exist
- Deprecated API: HN:GetMapFiletoMapID(mapFile), HN:GetMapIDtoMapFile(mapID),
- These have been deprecated and will be removed in the future, but are still provided for compatiblity with existing plugins (data is no longer available in-game, mapping provided by HereBeDragons-Migrate)
- Changed API: HN:GetContinentZoneList(uiMapIdOrmapFile)
- This API can now be called with either a mapFile (legacy mode), in which case it'll continue to return a list of legacy mapIDs for old plugins, or called with a new uiMapID, in which case it'll return a list of uiMapIDs
- New API: plugin:GetNodes2(uiMapID, minimap)
- This is equivalent to the old GetNodes call, except that it handles the new uiMapID type.
- The Iterator should return:
- coord, uiMapID, iconpath, scale, alpha
- Mapfile was replaced by uiMapID, level has been dropped
- The old plugin:GetNodes API is still available and the data is automatically converted, if a conversion is possible. It is strongly recommended to switch to GetNodes2, so you can support new zones!
- Removed API: HN:GetMapFile(C, Z), HN:GetCZ(mapFile), HN:GetZoneToCZ(zone), HN:GetCZToZone(C,Z)
Changes from v1.2.0 to v1.4.0
- HandyNotes now uses HereBeDragons-1.0 instead of the unmaintained Astrolabe
- Plugins which referenced Astrolabe directly should be updated, and ideally not require anything the HandyNotes API does not provide
- New HandyNotes API function: HN:GetContinentZoneList(mapFile), retrieve a list of zones inside a continent (Z -> mapID hash table)
I can't seem to get the addon to work together with Elvui, is there something I'm missing or will I have to disable elvui to use this addon?
Hi, is it possible to remove notes on the map?
Edit: Sorry, the ones I add I can remove. The HandyNotes_DraenorTreasures are the troublesome ones. I'll check with them.
I can't seem to get this to work. It may be a conflict with another addon but nothing is showing up for me. Installed both handynotes and handynotes_wod
Does it have a cache that needs to be cleared or no? Thank you!
I just downloaded this addon and it is really good, but i got some problem with the minimap icon; i use minimap button frame and all the time something appears on the minimap it goes in the minimap button frame window, how can i resolve this problem without removing these 2 addons?
Hi... "Ctrl+Shift+LeftDrag to move note" is not working for me, and it won't let me add a note to my location. Other thing, isn't it supposed to be Ctrl+Shift+LMB (Left Mouse Button) to move a note. I see some bugs, and some unnecessary and not very functional options (ex. the size of the markers). Not very polished, but it is integrated in wow in almost every aspects, the markers the interface all fine, but not perfect, 6/ 10. Thanks. A good example is PetTracker.
Is there a HandyNotes plugin for raid and dungeon locations? Can there be?
In the referenced .TOC file the ##Version line identifies the HandyNotes version as 1.2.0 although the .ZIP file which I downloaded is named HandyNotes-1.3.1.zip.
The result is that the Lua interpreter and !Swatter, respectively, identify the version as 1.2.0 in error dialogs, which you then regard as an error in the outdated version. For example, I already had version 1.3.0 installed and !Swatter reported an error, but identified the HandyNotes version as 1.2.0. So I downloaded and updated to 1.3.1, only to discover that I had already replaced 1.2.0.
(1) Edit your .TOC file to identify the HandyNotes version correctly.
(2) !Swatter reported the same error in HandyNotes 1.3.0 which FireEmerald has reported here previously. I expect it will pop the next time I access the Azeroth map to look at extant quests unless you have corrected it.
Do you have any plans to add the ability to delete notes or to edit them?
If I make a mistake when I create a note, the only way to get rid of it is to edit the HandyNotes file in the Saved Variables folder. That is not a good way to do such a thing, and editing that file to edit a note(s) that it contains is even less feasible.
If you right-click the note, there's an option to delete it. There's also a few more options there.
Just a question for anyone..... I was using Carbonite before pre-patch along with Handynotes. I'm not sure if it was Carbonite or Handynotes or what, but all the entrances to dungeons and raids and instances were designated on the map. Now with Carbonite gone, those notes are gone. Anyone know if there's a plugin or something that provides all that information? Thanks in advance!
Where are the HandyNotes info stored when you make a note? Is there a way to automatically populate a map with notes other than the plug-ins?
How can I tie a notes visibility to a quest id? For example
[62103250] = {
["icon"] = 1,
["title"] = "Amethyl Crystal",
["cont"] = false,
["desc"] = "100 resources\n",
with quest id 34236
For what it is worth, I will take another look, but FYI, after WoW 6.0.2 was installed I visited Curse and downloaded, then installed, the "current version" of every addon that I use. Handy Notes v. 1.2.0 was, I believe, presented as compatible for WoW 6.0.2 but maybe it was the only one that had not been updated. It has not been a problem until now, with WoW 6.0.3.
You're running a totally outdated version of Handynotes (v 1.2.0... about 2 years old)
How about updating to a new version, like 1.3.1 ?
Since 6.02 the game freezes for 30 sec when you open the map. Deactivating HandyNotes-v1.3.0 solves the problem :-(
I'm creating a ticket.
Recently I have had to stop using HandyNotes due to a huge performance hit when enabled. Every few seconds Wow will freeze and my FPS will drop from 59/60 to 7. This issue happens with only the core add-on enabled. I have tried reinstalling HandyNotes after deleting all corresponding files with no resolution. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I've been experiencing the same performance issue, got really worried but when I disabled HandyNotes everything returned to normal.
Does anyone know if there is a plugin or way to show these notes on OmegaMap? OmegaMap has the ability to show MapNotes notes, but that addon is pretty outdated (2012) and gives me several errors.
