HandyNotes
Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple framework for showing notes on your map.
Use /handynotes to access options.
You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:
- Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
- Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
- Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.
HandyNotes supports plugins that other authors can write to display their own set of notes on the map. See this link for a list of such addons: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/search?search=handynotes
A Question, and here seems like the right people to ask.
In the OrderHall there are Recruiters, the Artifact Knowledge Researcher, and the Class Hall Upgrades Location (Scrolls and Book, as icons on the minimap.)
Is there an option, or add-on, to hide those icons?
An add-on to selectively hide the icon, based on the availability to use the character/function would be even better. For example: If there are no more class hall upgrades, hide the book, if you don't need to recruit troops, hide that recruiters' scroll.
An even better add-on might Add icons when the Arms Maker or Buff Providor has an open work slot. To this I might also add a forge icon when the forge should be used on the equipped artifact.
I fully release my IP to anyone that wants to create such a mod to handy-notes if they are capable. If it already exists, can someone point me to it, I've already tried a variety of searches.
I created a new addon WorldMap Tracking Enhanced which should help a bit to toggle what plugin of HandyNotes to be displayed, directly with the WorldMap and don't need to go to addon setting page. Should help a bit.
Update. I am now able to edit my handynotes even in areas where I was unable to edit them previously. The handynotes box still appears behind the map but if you minimise the map you can create and edit handynotes. Good to see this addon is working again. It is an extremely useful addon.
I just loaded the latest version (1.4.13 - no lib) and the commands are not working. /hnnew or /handynotes does nothing. Also, all my old handy notes are not appearing on the map. Did I download the wrong version?
Hello,
I am wanting to create a plugin displaying portal locations on my world map. Is there any guide available for a beginner who has never done this before? I have little experience aside from creating an addon to allow access to garrison mission status button on minimap post legion on right click - though i'd love to donate my time to create something useful that i and others could use if i knew how. Thanks a million!
If theres any nice mod authors out there, looks like Pandaria Treasure plugin has been abandoned and really needs an update, last release according to curse was Aug 16.
Hi, im doing a plugin for HandyNotes but i wanna know how to show a dots in gray to tell that the spot is in a cave when you r outside of the cave and put it yellow (default color) when u r in that cave ?
Stupid question but do I have to download an additional plugin to make anything show up on my map? I downloaded this to see where I can increase my ancient mana from chest in suramar but it doesnt display anything on my map.
This is more like a "core" addon which provide the functionality to add / show nodes on the map. You will need to download the plugins.
For any mod authors out there who happen to come by: we really need a HandyNotes plugin for Class Halls! Thank you!
Go here.
Treasure chest inside Nar'thalas Academy coordinates 53.55, 40.08 as positioned relative to overall Azsuna map, but to collect the chest, you must be inside the Academy, and the coordinates for Azsuna map place the icon in the wrong place on the Academy map. The chest is actually located at 62.09, 83.79 in the Academy.
This is a great addon but it has serious issues at the moment. The note creation window appears behind the map so you can't even create a note full screen map. Even with the smaller map the note creation window appears behind the map. You also can't edit or delete notes. The box to edit and delete notes appears and disappears in a second. Hopes this gets fixed soon this was a really useful addon when it was working.
When I Alt-Rightclick on the world map nothing seems to happen except that I cannot move or use normal hotkeys until I close the map by pressing the x in the corner of map the window. Even will all other addons disabled.
/hnnew does not seem to do anything. Notes added by HandyNotes Special NPCs Etc when installed does not seem to be present.
Please make a Handy Notes for Crate of Bobbers Toy locations found from this wowhead comment.

Right now there's a bug in the default UI worldmap that makes the dropmenus disapear as soon as clicked.
There's a thread in MMOChamp about this:
http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/2150362-Map-Dropmenu-Click-Bug
Also some guy found a workaround in a thread at Battle.net:
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/15355745432
This solution DID fix the dropmenu glitch, at least for me but Handy Notes is still buggy since for example, I can't move (Ctrl + Shift + Left Drag) certain notes once created and I guess the same event that made the dropmenus glitchy is the one not allowing me to move notes since as soon as I grab them they snap right back to their original position and feels very similar to the dropmenus problem.
Perhaps the devs of this addon might find this info useful.
When you create a new handynote you can't select anything other than a star icon.
Once you create said handynote, you can't edit it.
In both cases the dropdown flashes for a split second before disappearing. Something regarding the onclick dropdown is obviously borked in the code.
No lua errors.
Chiming in as well.
1) Always make sure map is full size. Partial size doesn't seem to let me add a note.
2) Unable to edit. The menu that appears when right-clicking an existing note does not allow interaction, nor does it stay open for longer than a few seconds at most.
I am able to change the icon for the note, but only after disabling nearly all addons that I use. That speaks to a possible conflict, but I am not knowledgeable enough to do anything with that observation beyond passing that information on to you, Nevcairiel.
Update: There are several locations for the Ephemeral Crystal that need to be updated on Handynotes, How could i get this info to the creator?
This is a good place to drop valuable info for future updates and fixes, I sent the Maintainer: Nevcairiel a PM to let him know about the addon's latest bugs, let's just wait.
