HandyNotes
Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple framework for showing notes on your map.
Use /handynotes to access options.
You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:
- Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
- Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
- Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.
HandyNotes supports plugins that other authors can write to display their own set of notes on the map. See this link for a list of such addons: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/search?search=handynotes

Posted Nov 11, 2014If you right-click the note, there's an option to delete it. There's also a few more options there.

Posted Oct 28, 2014Just a question for anyone..... I was using Carbonite before pre-patch along with Handynotes. I'm not sure if it was Carbonite or Handynotes or what, but all the entrances to dungeons and raids and instances were designated on the map. Now with Carbonite gone, those notes are gone. Anyone know if there's a plugin or something that provides all that information? Thanks in advance!

Posted Oct 25, 2014Where are the HandyNotes info stored when you make a note? Is there a way to automatically populate a map with notes other than the plug-ins?

Posted Oct 21, 2014How can I tie a notes visibility to a quest id? For example
[62103250] = {
["icon"] = 1,
["title"] = "Amethyl Crystal",
["cont"] = false,
["desc"] = "100 resources\n",
with quest id 34236

Posted Nov 2, 2014For what it is worth, I will take another look, but FYI, after WoW 6.0.2 was installed I visited Curse and downloaded, then installed, the "current version" of every addon that I use. Handy Notes v. 1.2.0 was, I believe, presented as compatible for WoW 6.0.2 but maybe it was the only one that had not been updated. It has not been a problem until now, with WoW 6.0.3.

Posted Oct 18, 2014You're running a totally outdated version of Handynotes (v 1.2.0... about 2 years old)
How about updating to a new version, like 1.3.1 ?

Posted Oct 17, 2014Since 6.02 the game freezes for 30 sec when you open the map. Deactivating HandyNotes-v1.3.0 solves the problem :-(
I'm creating a ticket.

Posted Jun 24, 2014Recently I have had to stop using HandyNotes due to a huge performance hit when enabled. Every few seconds Wow will freeze and my FPS will drop from 59/60 to 7. This issue happens with only the core add-on enabled. I have tried reinstalling HandyNotes after deleting all corresponding files with no resolution. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Posted Jun 15, 2014Does anyone know if there is a plugin or way to show these notes on OmegaMap? OmegaMap has the ability to show MapNotes notes, but that addon is pretty outdated (2012) and gives me several errors.

Posted Jun 15, 2014I just installed this addon a few minutes ago, but I don't have any issue where the notes appear when I zoom out or view a different zone. Perhaps you have another addon that is conflicting. The map mods that I use are: HandyNotes (this addon), Explorer Coords (shows points to unlock map areas), MozzFullWorldMap (uncovers unexplored areas), OmegaMap (map replacer?), TomTom (waypoints).

Posted Apr 30, 2014This is a great addon but it has been outdated for too long now. I'm having problems with it, the notes I make in a continent or zone stay on screen after zooming out to any other map area or continent. Basically a mess.

Posted Dec 17, 2013Can we have in a future update a way to add custom icons? like reading .tga files from a custom folder within the Interface one? Chinchilla map addon does something like this with the mini map blips. This would be really great cause I use to explore A LOT the whole game maps and having a wider set of icons to choose from would make my map more detailed about my findings.
Thanks in advance. Link.

I would absolutely love to be able to customize icons or at least have some more additions to the standard set. I also have been noticing this feeling "old" and slowing things down a bit lately. I really find this addon so useful, I hope it continues to be effective. Thank you! :)

Posted Oct 25, 2013A small suggestion for a future version: I think it would be a good idea to add a small "help" function, showing the commands available. (Alt+Rightclick, "/hnnew" and "/hnnew x,y".) Or else add a description of the commands to the current Handynotes config screen. I recently started using Handynotes, and I keep having to alt-tab out of WoW and do a websearch so I can remember the commands - not very convenient!
Other than that I find it very useful, and I like the fact that other people can write their own list of notes and upload them for people to use. Much better than trying to copy and paste loads of text, as happens with Tom-tom.

Posted Oct 13, 2013Okay, so the Description tab tells me how to create notes and associate them with map locations.
It does not say even one thing as to how to access any note(s) after they are created. It is reasonable to assume that the Map must be displayed to access any note(s). However, if a PC must be at the location in order to read a corresponding note(s), then that severely limits the utility of the add-on.
Is there a way to review the entire set of notes, or to search all of those that have been made? I don't necessarily associate (1) numeric coordinates with (2) textual or graphic content in my own mind -- what I remember are the names of locations ("Mistfall Village"), or the names of NPCs ("Master Cheng"), or sometimes the names of quests. We give people, places, and things names so that we can remember them. "12:25" is not a name.
Can a note be edited? Can a note be deleted?
