Death Note
Death analysis tool.
Death Note records the events preceding a death and presents them to you in a comprehensible manner. If you have used Acheron before, this addon has been inspired by it.
How to use
- Check the data capture options in the interface panel and make sure that you are comfortable with the default settings.
- To view the recorded deaths, use the option in the right-click menu of a unit frame. Or, if you have a LDB display, you can also open the Death Note frame from there.
Not so obvious stuff you can do:
- Right-Click on the list of deaths to change the ordering.
- Drag a column separator to move it.
- Click on a time or health column to change its display format.
- Click on a spell or source to highlight all occurrences of that spell or source.
- Control+Click on a spell or source to add that spell or source to the list of filters (removing all the lines with that spell or source).
- Right-Click on a line to send a report to a chat channel starting from that line.
- Shift+Click on a column to paste its contents to the chat edit box.
- Control+Mouse wheel to change the frame scale.
Chat commands:
- /dn or undefined_/deathnote_ - opens main window
- /dn reset - wipes all data

Posted Mar 30, 2012You can open it with /dn or /deathnote, but honestly, the usability of that is terrible. Configure your right click bindings so that they are disabled on the target frame, or just install a lightweight LDB display. Or not, whatever.

Posted May 8, 2012@biggmacc: FYI you could always bind the "Show unit menu" function to a key binding that you don't use normally and open Death Note that way.
I also use my left and right click for heals so I simply bound ALT+CTRL right click for "Show unit menu", ALT+CTRL left click for "Target" and ALT+CTRL middle mouse click for "Focus".

Posted Aug 10, 2011I love this addon, however, I feel it would be beneficial to add an option whereupon a players death the last 3 sources of damage are printed, rather than just the final one that killed them.
Would be much much much more convenient for diagnosing deaths in the middle of a fight.

Posted Jun 21, 2011Did more testing on the PTR. Both with the version which is uploaded in the tickets (from the current SVN) and the current release version using my change from below still problems happen on the PTR. Problems are in UI.lua line 1365, and if this is commented out further problems are in Format.lua (it sounds to me as if this is also COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED related). Strangely I had these problems only inside a raid, not when solo.

Posted Jun 19, 2011Bugfix to make it work on Patch 4.2 PTR:
function DeathNote:COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED(_, timestamp, event, hideCaster, sourceGUID, sourceName, sourceFlags, sourceRaidFlags, destGUID, destName, destFlags, destRaidFlags, ...)
in DataCapture.lua

Posted May 18, 2011hope I did not miss the obvious:
is it possible to sort first column chronologically (instead of by name)? I love to know who died first (and why), but that's hard to find out when alphabetically sorted.
tx for a great mod!

Posted Jan 30, 2011You can only send reports to custom channels at the moment. Sending announces to custom channels will be added later.

Posted Jan 17, 2011I am aware of that problem. As a workaround until it is fixed, disable the consolidation filters before sending a report.

Posted Jan 16, 2011I have ran some tests and I have not found any problems with announces to any channel. Try deleting the SavedVariables file and disabling other addons and let me know if you still are having problems then. I am not sure what you mean with an "only in raid/group option", but there is already an option to announce the deaths to the party or raid channel, depending on the type of group you are in (which used to include battlegrounds too, but it doesn't anymore).
Also, I have added some checks in the latest version that should prevent spam of "You are not in a party" type errors when configured to announce deaths to a channel you are not in.

Posted Jan 16, 2011Seems to be some kind of bug if I choose raid output or group (well anything but chat frame) for announces it doesn't announce anything. Also an only in raid/group option would be great.
Actually seems to work in group/party but not in raid group. I was the raid leader if that makes a difference.

Posted Jan 14, 2011An option to enable an automatic data wipe when a new combat session has started would be great.
Saves me the trouble to wipe the data manually between each wipe on a boss.

Posted Jan 5, 2011Can you explain what would be the use case ? A report longer than 10 lines seems like it would be more confusing than helpful, and I prefer to not add features that are not really needed.
