Chatter

Table of Contents

Chatter is a comprehensive, lightweight, mega-configurable chat enhancement addon. It supports a whole bunch of stuff, including:

- Hiding buttons
- Custom aliases for channel names
- Coloring of player names by class or deterministic HSV formula, and player levels next to names
- Custom font and font size for your chat frames
- Custom background, border, and positioning for the edit box
- Option to let the edit box border color match the color of the channel you are typing in
- Channel colors remembered by name, rather than by number
- Scrolling your chat frames with the mouse wheel.
- Sticky channels, configurable
- Ability to copy a chat frame's contents to your clipboard
- Ability to copy URLs to your clipboard
- Ability to customize the background and border of your chat frames
- Timestamps
- A /tt command to send a tell to your target
- A module that turns the word "invite" into clickable links that let you invite the speaker.
- Highlights both for custom keywords in specific channels
- Chat fading toggles
- Text justification
- Autologging (Off by default)
- Alt linking
- Much larger and smaller chat frames than default
- A Groupsay (/gr) command to talk to your group, whether that's battleground, raid, or party.
- Chat Tab look-n-feel modifications
- Paging through chat tabs with the scroll wheel

I'm using this on all of my characters, and only having this problem on one. When I move the chatter box right to the bottom left hand corner (right in the corner) when I finish, or do anything else, it's x position stays the same, but the y position goes to around half way up my screen. Is there a setting or anything that's causing this?

When I write à little smiley, like ":)", Chatter change it in this one ":]"

I would like to see the same I write ! Is it possible ? I tried to see into the configuration but can't find the option...

Mouse over the chat box until the General tab appears at the top left. Right click the General tab and choose Unlock Window.

i have been using this addon for 6+ months and recently (within the last 2 weeks) have had to disable this addon because i can't chat with anyone. :\ ill type a message in but it doesnt go through. good i get some help trying to figure out whats going on?

That sounds like another chat addon is interfering with it. You might want to go through your list of addons, disable all except chatter and see if your messages are appearing. If they are, then that means it's most likely a conflict with another addon. Go back to your addon list and enable them 2-3 at a time so you can pinpoint which one might be the culprit. If that's not solving it, double check your chat "filters" to make sure nothing is being filtered out. ie, right+click on the chat tab, choose "filters". Check under those three categories. For example: if you are typing something out in guild chat and it's not appearing, make sure the "Guild Chat" box is checked. Hope that helps. Good luck!

This is such a fantastic addon. Thank you so much for all of your hard work that you've put into it.

I am having an issue with the "color player names" function. I have it checked -- and it's always worked for me... but here recently (in the past 3 weeks, I'd say), it's 'forgetting' the class of the player and colors everyone gray. This even includes myself! >.< So I'm wondering if something has changed or is bugged, etc. Thank you again!

Does Blizzard not give addon devs the hooks needed to resize the chat window? It is the only function I have found that can not be macroed or handled by an addon.

Hey can you add a level filter so that can set to what levels you don't want whispering you. that will help so that gold spammers don't whisper cause i'm getting tons a day now.

You can do this in the default chat settings in WoW, as far as I can remember. Unless you are wanting to dynamically create a new chat window for every whisper you recieve, which is what WIM does. Merely filtering all your whispers to one chat frame is easy. Just create a new chat frame and adjust it's settings to only show whispers.

Hello, great addon. It has been working perfectly up until the most recent patch. Now I have one small problem relating to the "chat bubble" icon or chat/emote icon. When I try to use hide all icons the scroll buttons are removed, but this icon is not. For some reason it hangs above my chat frame and won't budge. This is a little frustrating as I'm trying to keep my current UI as clean as possible. Is this an itended feature? Thanks.

Ok, well it turns out I left another chat mod running that has been interfering with chatter. I just turned it off and hey presto, the icon has gone. Problem solved.

Does anyone know if this addon has the functionality of not having to hold down the alt key to use the arrow keys? I switched from ChatMOD to Chatter, and this is the only thing bugging the shit out of me? If it is not, can this be a Feature Request? Thanks.

I've been having a problem with Chatter for awhile now that I can't fix, and was wondering if anyone could help me out.

When I log in, my edit box is missing. I can type, but the box is not visible, so I can not see what I'm typing. Even after disabling EditBox Polish, disabling the addon itself, and trying many other settings, I can't get it to appear. The ONLY way to get it to appear again is to change the position to somewhere else and then change it back. Then I can see it.

Anyone know how to fix this? It's really quite obnoxious.
