Chatter
Chatter is a comprehensive, lightweight, mega-configurable chat enhancement addon. It supports a whole bunch of stuff, including:
- Hiding buttons
- Custom aliases for channel names
- Coloring of player names by class or deterministic HSV formula, and player levels next to names
- Custom font and font size for your chat frames
- Custom background, border, and positioning for the edit box
- Option to let the edit box border color match the color of the channel you are typing in
- Channel colors remembered by name, rather than by number
- Scrolling your chat frames with the mouse wheel.
- Sticky channels, configurable
- Ability to copy a chat frame's contents to your clipboard
- Ability to copy URLs to your clipboard
- Ability to customize the background and border of your chat frames
- Timestamps
- A /tt command to send a tell to your target
- A module that turns the word "invite" into clickable links that let you invite the speaker.
- Highlights both for custom keywords in specific channels
- Chat fading toggles
- Text justification
- Autologging (Off by default)
- Alt linking
- Much larger and smaller chat frames than default
- A Groupsay (/gr) command to talk to your group, whether that's battleground, raid, or party.
- Chat Tab look-n-feel modifications
- Paging through chat tabs with the scroll wheel
Any idea where chatlogs are saved? Had autologging enabled since I've installed Chatter, so there should be a big load of logs somewhere, but I can't really find them.
@hardvark
I agree with this poster. The alt click to invite functionality seems to be borked.
@hardvark
i second that. still not functioning properly.
Since installing an upgrade today the alt-click to invite has stopped working reliably even when the option is definitely selected. Instead it opens a tell to the player.
so tried the alpha builds on the right, but I still get a LUA error when clicking the button to tweet things in the chat box. Is there something I can do to grab the error for somebody to look at? Thank you.
I realy love the AddOn and I'd like to switch Prat with Chatter. However there is one thing that bugs me so much that I can't and I don't find a way to disable it. Maybe you can help to find it or even disable it in the Lua... When you mouseover the Chattabs and then scroll it switches between the tabs instead of scrolling the chat... Please let me disable this :/
Chatter core was updated its libraries that it uses however were not. this is why people are still seeing issues and errors. Regardless if you use the standard or nolib. these libraries themselves have yet to be updated. And until such time that they are updated Chatter itself should not tout itself as 6.0.2 compliant. Which technically the core might be, but its libraries which are used to run it are not. To get an idea on how up to date its libraries are.. even examine the ones bundled with the current release. Then users will understand why its still having problems.
And even a long standing issue for me and others that I looked over. Was Chatter having problems using or swapping into profiles. At times its even corrupted the current profile for whatever reason. And then everything is reset to default. I was testing this with Chatter being the only loaded addon and just doing some stress tests with it in different situations. Whatever is tainting the profiles needs to be hunted down and squished. As well as figure out why it refuses to swap profiles when requested. And act like there was no request in kind.
Some might consider this comparison moot but Chatter is like how Mac software is designed with elegance and grace. While Prat is like Windows clunky and ugly. And since both types are trying to make the experience unique and well formed. It makes only sense that Chatter be the dominant one based on its design. Yet over time it has slowly and sadly started to fall behind it feels like. More and more issues starting to creep in. Someone needs to really go through Chatter and do some heavy cleanup.

@Korthas
Is this mod still being updated?
If not does anyone know a suitable substitute?
@Zeeky97
I second this, please consider implementing such a feature. :)
Since last patch, Realm names show after player names, even tho they are in my realm. Any way to disable this? Its really annoying.
Thanks
is it just me or did 5.4.7 break showing "Main" names in chat. I see it when they login still, but when they talk in chat, I do not see their main name anymore. I have tried to reset the main name for the person and that does not help. This is a great feature that I really love, and would hate to see it stop working. I am using the latest alpha build from Dec 16th.
Ok, I just recently got back into playing the game, and I used to use this addon in my interface. However, I seem to be having an issue now that causes me to not be able to read what people whisper to me. Any idea what could possibly be causing this?
Is there a way to have the text inside a chat window align right instead of the default (align left)?
I ask this because I use two chat windows, one on the left and one on the right. The one on the right looks weird with text aligned left.
Thanks!
Any chance we could have non-latin alphabets show up in chat/names etc. rather than "????????????" ?
@Trash777
exactly the same problem i love this feature pls bring it back :/
The level of guildies, even my own chars does not seem to get updated in chat unless i do manual /who queries.
I used to access chat history by pressing up arrow, today I'm installed the last client/addon version and that feature does not seems to be available anymore. Any idea? Thank you.
