Rarity

Tooltips

Inspired by Bunny Hunter, Rarity tracks how many chances you've had to obtain various rare items throughout the game, and tells you how lucky (or unlucky) you are. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, etc. This is primarily useful for farming companion/battle pets and mounts, but it also supports virtually any item including patterns and designs, archaeology projects, etc.

Rarity tracks an exhaustive list of every mount and companion/battle pet in the entire game (at least those that require significant farming to obtain). Items can be filtered by expansion and type. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can even tell you if you've killed certain world bosses!

Farming a huge collection of bones for the Bone-White Primal Raptor? Rarity will show you your progress.

Features

  • Provides an LDB feed, tooltips, and progress bar, allowing you to track items of your choice

Tracks every kind of item you can imagine:

  • Supports zone-wide drops (like Hyacinth Macaw)
  • Supports containers (like White Polar Bear)
  • Supports two-level loots (like Disgusting Oozeling)
  • Supports archaeology projects (like Scepter of Azj'Aqir)
  • Supports fishing (like Sea Turtle)
  • Supports item usage (like Mojo)
  • Supports items dropped from bosses that require a group to defeat
  • Supports items obtained from holiday boss bags (like Big Love Rocket)
  • Supports items looted from world containers (like Bonkers)
  • Supports collections of things (like Reins of the Bone-White Primal Raptor)
  • Supports some special cases (like Elementium Geode, Mysterious Camel Figurine)
  • Supports things other than pets and mounts (like Skyshard, Primal Egg, recipes, legendary components)
  • Supports bonus coin rolls (like Mogu Rune of Fate)

Other features:

  • Fully user configurable—you can add your own items to track
  • Adds to game tooltips, showing you when something you're looking at is the source of something that Rarity tracks
  • Lets you modify your kill count without having to edit saved variables
  • Shows an "achievement" alert when you obtain the item
  • Uses boss kill statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
  • Can report your progress to various channels or in whispers
  • Tracks how long you've been farming this session, day, week, and month
  • Supports tracking two items at the same time
  • Tells you if you've defeated world bosses this week
  • Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter

You should also install

  • Rarity works best with an LDB display like Fortress, Button Bin, or Titan Panel. If you don't have a display, turn on Rarity's minimap icon. There are lots of displays available—if you don't like one, try another!
  • AddonLoader is highly recommended. This will let you keep the configuration UI unloaded until you need it.
  • Collectinator is a good companion add-on to Rarity. It will show you where to obtain everything that Rarity tracks.
  • Archy is recommended to replace the default Archaeology UI, which Rarity has been known to cause problems with.

    Thought I should mention, it is able to link the item in the other announcements, just not the channel one.

    I'm using enUS.

    What locale are you running? (enUS, or something else?) It seems the item link is causing the error, but the same thing works just fine for me in enUS.

    @Allara, finally figured out how to see LUA errors:) I have everything disabled but autoloader and rarity. Also have channel set to guild. Fresh install of Rarity, also deleted cache, wtf. Here is the error I'm getting. Perhaps its just my computer but just in case its not.

    As I said, try reinstalling Rarity, and make sure you're not running the no-lib version. Check if there are any Lua errors. I'm unable to reproduce the problem, so you'll have to keep experimenting.

    @Allara,

    All of the announcements will work except for "channel" (the party/raid one will say not in party/raid so may work once I test those) but the rest of them guild,say, yell will not display any information. I've tried reloading, deleting my cache, wtf folder, disabling all addon's but rarity and still nothing will show when looting a mob. Tested it on killing gundrak raptors. Any other ideas on getting it to work?

    @Zurgzurg: Go

    Hey Zurgzurg,

    I just tested in-game, and guild announcements are working just fine for me. Setup exactly as you described. Killing a mob doesn't do it, you need to loot the mob in most cases. Try various other channels to see if they work. Also try reinstalling the add-on, making sure you don't install the "no-lib" version.

    As far as I can tell, the feature is working properly.

    Hey Allara,

    Love the add on, is there a trick to the announcements, or is it broken? I have "Channel" selected w/ "Sub section" marked as "Guild Chat" but when I complete an arch project or kill a mob it does not announce to my guild that I attempted? (And for the rares I was tracking announce is turned on) (Perhaps there could be added a "test announcement" button in order to see how it will be outputted.

    @Allara: Go

    lol ok, fair enough. Looks like I get to change my oozing farming toon that doesn't already have it!

  • Avatar of Allara Allara Nov 11, 2011 at 16:25 UTC - 0 likes

    Sorry, Rarity doesn't support repeated farming of the Oozeling. It's the only repeatable pet that it does not support. The explanation of why is too complicated for a non-developer. Sorry for the inconvenience!
