CinematicCanceler
Automatically and immediately cancels all in-game cinematics and movies. CinematicCanceler ensures you are never stuck on a cinematic screen while important group events are taking place. In some cases can even prevent cinematic-related client crashes and freezes.
Install as usual and It Just Works (tm). Will print a message to chat when a cinematic is suppressed. You can hold any modifier key (shift, control, alt) when a cinematic is starting to allow it to play.
Just started having issues with this in the 11.0 pre-patch. Some cinematics will cancel just fine, however I've noticed leveling in WoD that a lot of them throw a lua error and get rid of my cursor. Since the last update was in 2016, I'm doubtful about it being maintained now, but I figured I'd still report the issue. Could be an easy fix for all I know, but I don't know anything about lua. Here's the lua error:
1x ...rfaceCinematicCanceler/CinematicCanceler.lua:27: attempt to call global 'GameMovieFinished' (a nil value)
[string "@CinematicCanceler/CinematicCanceler.lua"]:27: in function `MovieFrame_PlayMovie'
[string "@Blizzard_FrameXML/Mainline/MovieFrame.lua"]:13: in function <...aceBlizzard_FrameXML/Mainline/MovieFrame.lua:9>
Locals:
(*temporary) = nil
(*temporary) = "attempt to call global 'GameMovieFinished' (a nil value)"
In reply to chonkywolf:
Just in case it doesn't get updated:
Change Line 27
Current = GameMovieFinished()
Change to = CinematicFinished(1)
Should fix the errors. I've only tested on the cinematic in Dalaran for the pre-patch event, the one Archmage Khadgar et al have that say "Remind me of the events so far."
Thank you so much! Works like a charm. I went back to the WoD intro to test it and it seems like it's all fixed.
This is working just fine, in Shadowlands.
A user may want to update the TOC, however.
Change ## Interface: 70000
to ## Interface: 90002
(or whatever is current, at the time you view this comment).
update for BFA?
Hi! This addon is great. However, there is a new effect in the WoD dungeon, Auchindoun, that causes the entire screen to fade to black before the cinematic actually starts. This is obviously awful. Is there any way you can make CinematicCanceler prevent this from happening? Thank you! :)
Could you figure on a way to make this not cancel the toy

If anyone wondering if it works on Shipyard cinematic. I can confirm that it does!
HUGELY appreciated. Would be fantastic if it allowed a cinematic to be played if it had never been seen before, but that is probably something that can't be flagged by an addon.
Awesome addon, a real help to multiboxing. Thanks.
This doesn't seem to be canceling the cinematics inside Siege of Orgrimmar, other than that, it's been working great.
Oscar, do you still play? Which is to say, do you know if this works on the transition movie after Council/before Tortos?
I just tested this on the first cinematic I came too after installing this addon.
The name of the quest with the cinematic was How to Maime Your Dragon in Twilight Highlands.
The cinematic started, played, I got quest completed, cinematic continued to play. Realizing the addon wasn't going to cancel it I hit ESC and canceled the cinematic myself. When the cinematic closed, the chat window said "Cinematic Canceler: Cinematic canceled" as if it did the cancel, taking credit for the fact I had to do so manually.
Sorry, but this doesn't seem to work.
It did work on the cinematic from the quest named Eye Spy that came later on after the previous one I reported.
You may have inadvertantly been pressing a modifier key (shift, alt, control) when the cinematic began, which tells the addon to allow it to play.
There are a few one-time quest cinematics that may bypass the addon, and a handful that actually won't award quest completion unless you allow them to play them thru (hence the modifier key feature).
I assure you the addon works perfectly on the raid cinematics that play in DS, which is the main purpose of this addon.
No I did not hold a modifer key, my hands weren't even on the keyboard until I decided to cancel the cinematic myself.
As I said in my 2nd post later on, it did work on the next cinematic I came too. So it's spotty I guess. Thanks though.
EDIT: spelling
Finally! No more trying to get out of movie screens.
Works perfectly!
