Even when grid is locked and solo is set to hidden when you join and leave a group the little square will pop back up and the only way to remove it is to reload the game EVERY time you join a group

Which setting are you using to hide the the grid2 window when solo ?

If you are usin the "None" layout then displaying the border with no buttons is the expected behaviour. The real bug is that the border is not displayed when the UI is reloaded.

You have two posibilities: 

  1. Goto General / Appearance / Layout Look&Feel

  2. Select "Grouped" in the "Show Frame" option.

Or if you prefer to hide the border:

  1. Goto General / Appearance / Layout Look&Feel

  2. Select "None" in the "Border Texture" Option. You can reduce the spacing option too or set a transparent color for the border.
