What version of Grid2  are you using (Version is displayed in General/About Tab) ?

Did you try having Grid2 as the only enabled addon and everything else disabled?

Not relevant.

Was it working in a previous version? If yes, which was the last good one?

Yes/no. On classic era this doesn't seem to work at all, but on wotlk (with the same profile I copied over the years) it doesn't happen.

Do you have an error log of what happened? If you don't see any errors, make sure that error reporting is enabled (`/console scriptErrors 1`) or install [BugSack](https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/BugSack).

Please provide any additional information below.

If I want to show the pet frames  in my party layout (so per example, layout to group with pets), it will show as if I'm in a 40man raid with group 1 being my party, and group 8 being the pets; clogging up my screen with all the empty groups inbetween. I use exactly the same layout on my wotlk profile, where this does not happen at all and I just see pets next to my party. This problem is only occuring in classic era.

Goto General/Layouts/General  tab and Uncheck the "Display All Groups" option.
