What is the nature of the defect?
Many herbs give the same pigments when milled, but it looks like GW takes into account only the first one in the list.
For example, I had some herbs in my bag and in my mail, but GW wouldn't use them.
If I go to the AH it scans correctly all the possible herbs but tells me to buy the first one only (I did'nt checked if they were actually the cheapest).
I tried to mill them myself using GW but it told me that it lacks linen, woolen or silk cloth !

    It was with r98

Hum, I just read this comment, it's the same problem : http://www.wowace.com/addons/gnomeworks/?comment=1098

I had almost the same problem with enchanting : I had in my bag some greater essence which could be split into lesser essences, but GW told me to pick them from my guildbank.

gw will generally prefer to collect ready made items instead of telling you to craft them, even if they're craftable directly from your bags.  hopefully as the mod matures, this kind of stuff will become smarter.

not sure how it's confusing cloth for herbs, tho.

It seems a good idea to use already crafted items, but maybe "transformable" items should be treated differently, at least the ones that can be split again (some elements need a specific tradeskill to be split again).
