Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

THank you for keeping this updated! I love the ability to keep track of things, makes life much easier. My only request: Could this be updated also on wowinterface.com? That website plays much nicer with my linux box than Curse does.
Done! ;-)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Stay safe and have a good one.

Thanks! :)
Thank you for your work!
Is there any way to store logs account-wide? Or, at least, faction-wide? I have 11 twinks and they are all in one guild. It should be very nice to have possibility to read history of guild chat after re-login with another toon. The same goes for logs on private chats of any my character.
I know it has been requested quite a bit. What I always wanted to do was to offer the option to choose between per-character/per-faction/account -wide logs, and I know it is possible. However, it is a bit of a hassle to do that in the code, and it MAY be slower. I have to work on it. Can't promise anything, but I totally understand that it isn't very practical the way it works now if you play on a lot of toons.
I'll keep you updated when I work on it!
hint: SendChatMessage("log this word","INSTANCE_CHAT");
I do hope this gets updated soon, I gotta have my logs!!
I hope to have the time during this week ;)
Blizzard made some changes to chat channels again. There is a new instance chat channel that replaces certain of the old channels, I think battleground and party although I'm not entirely sure. It looks like Elephant doesn't know about and so isn't logging this instance channel.
Looking forward to an update when you have the time. Thanks!

Released 3.2 since I got no bug report.
Just added an option to disable timestamps when copying from the copy window. It should be saved accross sessions.
This is available on the 3.2 BETA version, so please select this version if you want to test it! And if so, please report any bug you encounter!
is there anyway to increase the font size
Nope!
Is there some way to remove the time stamp off the side of a piece of chat in the copy window?
aka:
23:16:06 [name] blah
to -> [name] blah
It would be greatly appreciated for tracking rp storylines! ^^
Nope there is not, because the copy window outputs exactly what has been logged by the addon. And thus, the timestamps as well ;)
I'll however look into it just to be sure that it is not "simply" feasible, but don't expect too much ;)
I don't know much about programming but isn't telling it not to do something easier when you do? I will check in though to see if you where able to do it though. Til then I will have to copy paste past the time stamp over and over....and over. *nods*
Just been updated for latest patch! Enjoy!
