Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

If I remember correctly, there is a way to copy settings from one character to the other.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to go through a modification of your addon saved variables while the game is not running. I am away from my computer so I cannot give you this information right now however, but if you are comfortable editing those, you should be able to simply change the table key from your old character name to the new one.
In reply to AllInOneMighty: Could you let me know how to once you are able to and I'll give it a go?
First, thank you so much for this great addon. Really love it.
I was wondering if it's possible to do the following tasks:
1. Automatically save the logs to a different file so that I can keep a history of more than 1000 log line and 15000 copy characters limit. I know I can increase this in the options, but the options also have severe impact on the game performance when I do that.
2. Have elephant read the exported file in the above step?
I play on multiple machines and would like to be able to keep the log history in a central shared folder so that no matter which machine I am playing on I can check old chat logs.
Apologies if this was covered before. I tried to read the old comments first but didn't find the info.
Thank you in advance.

Hello eiy711,
There is an option in the addon settings to log all chat to a file on your computer (and combat chat in another file), but there is no way to read it back to the addon, unfortunately. It's a limitation from the API.
The only way to have those logged and accessible in game is to increase the number of log lines and copy characters limit, unfortunately.
In reply to AllInOneMighty: Thank you! Is this the "File Logging" option under "Logs" tab? It has a warning so I didn't turn it on. If I turned this on, where will the file be located? Thanks!
In reply to eiy711:
It is that option! The warning only applies if you have a separate addon that also enables this option.
When you have activated this option, it will be logged in Warcraft\Logs\WoWChatLog.txt
Would it be possible to log addon messages?
First off awesome addon I've been using it for years! As Guild Lead it's been a very great addon when someone starts the whole "he said they said" thing! Sorry folks I have the text saved lol
I was wondering if there is a way to add communities? One of my communities is /6 for example. I searched here and also the settings and couldn't find anything. Thanks ahead of time!
Hello.
One question:
is there a way to split the trade chat with the annoying selling section?
ingame i have it in an own channel but in your addon the tradechat will be mixed with the selling (service) chat. so the logs will be full with this spam.
best regards

Added to the last release!
i used this for a week and idled in the main hub and found 40+ guild advertisement and i was able to find a really good one thanks to this!
In reply to swi7ch:
So glad this addon is useful to you! ♥
My logs got wiped. It's okay though, I found that individual characters have a log saved in saved variables.
If there's a way to individually restore character log files, I think I manage that. Is this possible?
Hi, great utility addon.
Just reporting a quick bug:
As of version 10.0.5c, the "general chats" part of elephant is blanked out where the channels like "trade" are supposed to show up. Clicking on a given channel gives a LUA error.
I can downgrade to 10.0.0 or 10.0.5b and the problem goes away.
The problem exists also in the latest release 10.0.5d. I am using 10.0.5b in the meantime.
In reply to dysonfm:
Which language are you using? Do you have an error log that I can look at?
EDIT: I believe I know what's going on. I will test it out ASAP and send release a fix if it is, indeed, that. An error log is still appreciated!
In reply to AllInOneMighty: Thanks, the latest fix works. Sorry I didnt provide logs or respond after the initial post, my WOW time has been severely limited the last few weeks in personal life mode.
My settings for the channels were wiped recently but not the settings for the window position. I didnt notice until a few days ago. All channels were enabled again. I only need one channel recorded.
We really, really need a button to "disable all" and "empty all".
In reply to Zasz_:
Noted! I will try to add the "disable all" and "empty all" options to Elephant.
That said I am sorry that your channels were wiped :( I took a lot of care for this not to happen... but it seems a situation might have escaped me. Do you know what happened so I can reproduce it?
The latest version, that's migrate all Chats of a Realm is a very bad idea. 10.000 Lines per Realm is very short and to clear all history without a warning to the user is a bad idea too. I don't lost anything, but I can't see it anymoore in the game now.
I dont't need a chat of another char of the same realm. It should be a optional feature to combine all that chats together.
In reply to Zwixx:
Hello Zwixx,
Sharing logs with all characters of a realm is a new option that you can choose to enable or not. In the settings, if you DO NOT select "Share logs with alts", the logs will be proper to the character that is currently logged in and will NOT be affected by other characters.
By default, this option is NOT enabled, so this update should not have impacted you.
