Beta phase commencing (Updated Date)

Hi guys!

We've begun a short public beta phase for the new WowAce.

All users can log in now, not just a select few alpha testers that we had previously.

Projects have been imported to test and play with. Note: these will all be deleted and a fresh slate will be provided.

You may notice that most projects belong to the wowaceSVN user. This is because our importer can't figure out whose projects are whose in the general case. If you want to claim your project easily, make sure that your X-Email in your TOC file matches your Curse account. Alternatively, you can wait until after the transition and have a moderator assign properly.

We expect to start the real transition sometime on Friday, September 19, 2008.

Hey guys, sorry for doing this, but we need a few more days to run all the data import scripts, so we're expecting the transition to happen either Tuesday(23rd) or Wednesday(24th) at this point.

Oh could you also add a user config option if at all possible to allow dates to be displayed properly according to locale. As a UK user the American date format just looks wrong, in precisely the same way that EU format looks wrong to Americans. Its what we grew up with.

Something that says 09/01/2008 to you looks recently updated to me it looks 8 months old.

I added an X-Email: tag to my project and commited to wowace svn. It now shows up in my list of projects. :-) However I can also see in my list of projects the SAME addon I have been updating from the curse/curseforge projects list for 2 years.

Now the Curse one is the version I only periodically update however it is the one with a long history of comments and suggestions with the users.

What plans are in place to identify duplicates such as these? Is it possible/desirable to have an X-Curse: tag eg:

    X-Curse: 2430

to indicate the project id of the existing project on This might allow a degree of automation and merging of projects.

I can well imagine that dealing with multiple versions is going to prove your biggest headache. Kudos to the idea of restricting "packaged" addons as these are a major source of out dated addons and proliferation of duplicates.

Are there plans to allow the client to ignore the multiple old versions on and only use files? I tried the v2.0.0.6 beta client and was appalled at the number of REALLY old versions it identified as possible matches. Had I let it proceed it would have back-revved 20%+ of my addons.

If this is the client we are to use in future it really NEEDS proper version control. The very nice thing about was you could install it and click update. It then only updated stuff that was new, the curse one plods through addon after addon presenting options most of them ancient. I have 256 addon folders in my addons directory, yes I am an addict but have the PC spec to cope :-) so it took ages. After seeing numerous times it gave me do you want this guild package version or that guild package version (both of which over 6 months old) I quit the package and uninstalled until its got version control or it starts using wowace versions.

Just a small ( i think ) feature request... On the "Authors page, it would be nice to be able to select a starting letter ( in the same way as on ). It is hard to find a specific author by going through 610 pages :)

Yes, I thought about it and thought it'd be useful to show both. I could filter it, but I'm not sure if it'd be needed. & Adminstrator
Check out my new addon, OneChoice, it helps you pick quest rewards faster.

When view my profile and my projects and I click on the Name of my project on, it takes me to the curseforge site of my project rather than the wowace site.

Oh it seems that maybe it will show CF & wowace projects? As when I find the project for LittleWigs on wowace it says it's still owned by wowacesvn.
