539 - [Legion] Show cost of ability on Power bar
What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?
Default Power bars on the Legion Beta show how much of the Power bar will be used up by casting an ability.
Examples:
Marksman hunter: Focus bar turns 50 of the Focus bar blue when you cast Aimed Shot: https://forge.gg/i/VmlkZW86ODMxMDEz
Arcane mage: Mana bar turns partly light blue for the cost of Arcane Blast: https://forge.gg/i/VmlkZW86ODMxMDE2

I mean, Power bars got their predicted cost AND a gain/spend "chunk" (visible on rogues when spending energy for attacks, or when gaining energy from passives, for example), but health bars (at least the unit frame one) got this red "hit marker", just like in fighting games, where the health you've lost is shown as a red chunk that quickly depletes, instead of just disappearing without further feedback. Very nice for seeing at a glance the magnitude of the hit received, for example.
I don't know if that feature would be in the same sack as the predicted cost of casted abilities in terms of development, but it would be nice to also have the instant ability power spend/health loss effect.

And yes, it would be great to have some way to create regions from templates. Also on the trigger side, it can be a lot of work to set up a interface for a new class.

All of it kinda is but would probably best as a special region subtype maybe, I already thought about that before, subtypes of regions tailored to a specific type with better fitting defaults on creation. For example when you create a progress bar you can chose to create a castbar and it has stuff enabled by default like the spark and cast time and now resource cost. Not sure if this would be worth the effort though..

Would such a overlay functionality be useful for anything else besides spell casts for mana bars?
What comes to my mind is castbar with latency, absorbs for health bar, predicted healing (is that easily available?)

You can, but custom code where you have to specify the spells and costs and everything is a lot more complicated for users. It would be very nice to not have to do that.

Stanzilla May 14, 2016 at 17:37 UTC - 0 likesYou can just do that with a second bar, see http://howtopriest.com/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=8339 the Insanity bar for example.
