Unsolicited is a simple, quiet addon for blocking out gold or leveling spam messages (e.g. whispers).

Features

• Blocks any messages containing certain words from the following commands:
  • /whisper (everywhere)
  • /say (in cities)
  • /yell (in cities)
  • /emote (in cities)
  • 'General' chat channel.
  • 'Trade' chat channel.
• It is quiet. There is no feedback when spam is detected - since that defeats the purpose of blocking them.
• Requires no setup or configuration.
• Friends and fellow guild members are never censored.
• The senders of blocked whispers receive a reply so they know their message was blocked. This is just in case they were sending a legit message - they are then allowed to rephrase and try again.
• The list of banned words - as well as the channels to filter - can easily be configured to suit your needs.
• The following information is readily available:
  • Number of blocked messages since installation (account-wide)
  • The names of the last 10 people who were blocked (account-wide)

To-Do list

Following is a list of possible improvements being considered for the addon:

• Keep the last 10 messages and display them when the spammer's name is clicked in Fubar.
• Put people you talk to (e.g. whispers) or are in a party with, on a temporary white-list.
• Also block chat bubbles of spammers (temp. ignore is one possible way)
• Filter out item link spam? (Note: need more information about the problem with item links)

These improvements have already been implemented:

• Allow for easy addition or removal of banned words. Added in v.1.1.0 --Ixchael 06:44, 26 January 2008 (EST)

• Make filtering of each channel configurable. This would allow users to turn off spam filtering of whispers but keep the filtering of general chat channels, for example. Added in v.1.1.0 --Ixchael 06:44, 26 January 2008 (EST)

These suggestions have been considered but dropped:

• Automatically report spam using the built-in reporting system. Dropped due to potential of false positives and lack of trust in the effectiveness of the reporting system. --Ixchael 06:44, 26 January 2008 (EST)
