Waypoints: Search and/or Add Coordinate Entry

The ability to search for names from the database or manually entered coordinates to set waypoints.

Discussion

I love, love, love Cartographer. I just made the switch from MetaMap, and one of the few things I miss is being able to search the database for a mob/npc/area by name and set the waypoint to that. It would also be nice to be able to manually enter coordinates to the waypoint for things that do not yet exist in the database.

Interoperability with mobmap

Cartographer kind of hides the stuff mobmap draws on a map. When deactivating Cartographer it works well.

Discussion

I used to use MetaMap + Mobmap. I like the concept of mobmap and I found no equivalent for cartographer. I don't know why Cartographer hides mobmaps draws, but the author of mobmap says, he could not do anything against it. As ist worked well with MetaMap, it must be possible to manipulate the map and not to override everything on it. The same problem also appears with any other map manipulating plugin like gatherer.

NoteShare allow nodes to be tagged

Allow players who are not that profession to tag nodes for sharing with others.

Discussion

When using Gatherer we would tag nodes for other profressions just so they could be shared with the guild. For instance I am a miner, but if I walked up to a herbalism node and clicked on it, I would get the "Requires Herbalism" error message, but the node was still added to my database and shared with others.

I think this is useful since it allows the entire guild to mark and share nodes, and does not limit it to your current profession.

Change map overlay upon changing zones

Change the map to correspond with the players current zone upon zone changes.

Discussion

I think it would be a nice idea to have Cartographer dynamically change the map to correspond with the players current zone. Users who like to have a map overlay while pathing zones due to such activities as mining or herbalism, may benefit from this. It would be easier than having to manually change the map to match, each time you change zones. AlphaMap has similar functionality for reference.

Guild Member Positions on Minimap

The ability to see other guild members on the MiniMap as well as the World Map.

Discussion

After using guild map for some time, our guild recently switched to Cart and removed GM from the guild required list, along with the ability to see guild members on the MiniMap. I really miss this and hope to see it added to Cart :)

RareNotes

I would like something that places a mapnote on when you encounter a NPC that has a silver dragon border.

Discussion

It is just as important as treasure chests, as they are sometimes the sole source of some items. There is a mod out there called RareFinder that notifies you that you found a rare by displaying a message on the screen. It might be a simple thing to modify that mod to place an map note once you find a Rare.

DruidJP585 13:44, 28 February 2007 (EST)

Ace Addon called SilverDragon uses Cartographer to display Rare locations, even for those not yet seen. You can actually get the addon from WoWAce. --PathMaster 13:38, 2 March 2007 (EST)

Cave Maps

As new places get added to the game, the cave systems get more and more complicated. It would be useful to be able to have Overworld (what we have now) and Basement (below ground) maps for zones with caves and tunnels. Technically they are the same zone so Map Note placed on a Basement Map would show up on a Oveworld map and vice-versa (thus mining nodes wont be obscured).

Discussion

As new places get added to the game, the cave systems get more and more complicated.

Traveling Salesman algorithm in the waypoints module

A waypoint sorting system based on shortest route needed to cover them all from point of origin, and back.

Discussion

The recent releases of the Waypoints module are really awesome :D Thank you for implementing that in. I noticed there is a queue in there. The most amazing thing now would be to implement a short traveling salesman algorithm into the queue to allow the user to input a set of coordinates at a time and have them sorted by the shortest route needed to cover them all. What would be even more amazing is a simple FuBar module that would display the coords placed into the module with the option to click to remove, disable, etc. I might be wrong, but I don't think it would require a lot of coding. The algorithm is very simple, the queue system is already in place.. :D

Instance Quests

Information on quests for each instance.

Discussion

This would give cartographer the same function as atlas_quests, where information for all the quests of that particular instance is stored for ready access. I'd like to see this, then I can completely remove Atlas :)

GoTo coordinates xx.xx

A simple button that pops up a box to enter coordinates that pings the spot.

Discussion

Often when i have coordinates i want to navigate to i have thought why not have a button that gives you a textinput for coordinates and ping the desired location or similar. I dont know if this is possible or not, but it sure would be a timesaver! Also a editable hotkey command like alt+enter to bring it up could be handy.

Resser 12:50, 8 February 2007 (EST)

This would be really great!

Anonymous

I also think this would be cool!

Wingforce 11:22, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

why not just use /note xx.xx to add a map note? this idea seems a bit redundant to me.

--Catbeef 04:00, 8 October 2007 (EDT)

Share notes through custom channel

Simply to have an ability to enter custom channel name to broadcast notes to that channel.

Discussion

I think it is useful when you play on different characters and you friends play on different character. Very inconvenient to change shared-with user in config or make a group to share every time you or your friend(s) login with different toon. Having custom channel will make the configuration static.

Automatically Reject Duplicate Notes

Quite simply put.. Automatically refuse to accept incoming notes, if the following conditions are met: The note is exactly the same name and type, it is within .2 or .3 units away from your original note (to make up for differing player location at the time of note creation)

Discussion

I think this would be a useful feature because duplicate quest and vendor notes clutter the map very quickly.

Show the waypoint 3D arrow during corpse runs

Either create a note at the corpse location on death (or on release of ghost) and then enable the waypoint mode for that node, or use GetCorpseMapPosition somehow. ("Somehow" meaning "I have no idea how to do this, so I'm making it a feature request" ;))

Discussion

Found myself wanting something like this, now that I'm back to leveling with BC and getting ganked all over the place. :D

Gnarfoz 17:18, 29 January 2007 (EST)

This would be great!

ElykNosrac 20:55, 31 January 2007 (EST)

this seems to have been added, should this be removed from the wish list?

API Requests

Various API requests for inclusion into Cartographer and it's modules.

Discussion

CTMapMod Like Icons

Icon pack with CTMapMod icons for notes (including text shown; i.e. icon = the red dot, text = monster)

Discussion

This would be nice because each icon has a defined function (location, npc, item, ...) and CTMapMod users see the icon and know what it means. To make such a map pack it's necessary to rename default icon texts to be more clear (i.e. square -> monster) or add parameter "newText" to Cartographer_Notes:OverrideIconGraphic

Mars 22:41, 16 January 2007 (EST)

And it would be nice if Cartographer_Notes:OverrideIconGraphic can change showToUser too.

Mars 21:42, 17 January 2007 (EST)

With the CT_Mod team's permission, I put together Cartographer_CtMapModPack so you can use CT_MapMod icons in Cartographer. You use it like any of the other available icon packs. It is available via WAU (and thus also files.wowace.com).

Detachable map controls

Map control bar independent from actual map.

Discussion

AlphaMap has similar functionality. Map can be closed but you still have controls available.

Ignatich 06:11, 15 January 2007 (EST)

Group Notice

A Map Pin wich can be seen by all group members (with installed cartographer).

Discussion

Set by Shift or CTRL+Left Mouse Button, it shows on the Mini-/Map for the whole Group but lasts only for the wow session and doesn't get saved. This is the most used MetaMap feature for me, even when i'm alone because it allows easier navigation to some coordinate through the minimap.

Solkan 00:48, 12 January 2007 (EST)

WorldMap Cropping

Provide a CT_Viewport style option to the WorldMap window.

Discussion

I'm an herbalist, and I routinely will go on a gathering/mapping run through an entire zone. I like being able to see the map up while I'm running, but to effectively gather, I need it at 70-80% zoom at least. This, even with transparency takes up quite a bit of screen space (thinking of Ashenvale, and other large horizontally oriented zones). If I could show the space around me (but more than the minimap can show) it would be great!

Note for Target

Functionality similar to the old MapNotesNoteTarget.

Discussion

I've been using this little addon for ages now as it allows you to quickly add notes to a map by clicking on a person or a mob and using /nt to create a note without having to open the map (or /ntm to merge with a nearby existing note). Even though the current version behaves erratically, I'd love to see a similar functionality here.

Jayhawk 07:34, 23 November 2006 (EST)

I wrote Cartographer_NoteTarget for this purpose. Check out the forums: http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=6390.0 It is also obtainable via WAU.

Separate Cartographer and Cartographer Instance Maps

Split the high-quality instance maps into a separate module for Cartographer.

Discussion

This seems like a fairly logical (and necessary) step. The instance maps themselves probably won't be changing that much so I see no reason why when updating with WAU we should re-download the instance maps every time we update. It would also give the people who have no desire to use instance maps the option not to get them.

Trankillity 02:59, 15 November 2006 (EST)

Would it be possible to import different versions of the maps? Example Atlas has a High Quality Map Pack that you can import and overwrite the existing Maps. http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=3324 Would it be possible to do use those same maps in Cartographer?

Dameek 12:36, 16 November 2006 (CST

a lightweight npc knowledge base

I'd like to see some sort of knowledge base module, that automatically adds NPC the player is interacting with. e.g. talking to questgiver, buying from a merchant, training skills and stuff.

Discussion

I think this would be a useful feature because it helps people that are tending to forget where to find a_funny_npc_01.

Neriak 06:59, 10 November 2006 (EST)

I would like this too.

Have a look at:

  • Cartographer_Quests by Kodewulf, Adirelle - Questgiver mapnotes for Cartographer
  • Cartographer_Trainers by Kodewulf - Trainer mapnotes for Cartographer
  • Cartographer_Vendors by Kodewulf - Vendor mapnotes for Cartographer

For more trainer related addons also try

  • School by Kodewulf - Displays what skills are available to learn.
  • FuBar - TrainerFu by Nickenyfiken - Keep track of skills learnable from trainers.

* WoWKB (found at WoW Interface) now supports Cartographer and it is a lot more light-wieght than the one found in Metamap. It will also import the Metamap knowledgebase if the addon is loaded at the same time. ~~

Add Time and Date to the notes created

Option to automaticaly add Time and Date when we create notes.

Discussion

Mapnotes had this option I would like to have it added to Cartograph awell ofc we could always add it ourselfs but a auto would make things easier.

Hellfury 14:52, 13 November 2006 (EST)

Is this really necessary? I just don't see the point.

Ckknight 21:39, 13 November 2006 (EST)

Setting a timestamp on Nodes allows the possibility for several things : 1. Purging nodes based upon a certain timestamp 2. Preventing data corruption over time by misplaced nodes and bad imports (in combination with 1) 3. Export of data to a global DB, which then can be used again to reimport more recent data.

Node timestamps should be set if a player has actually seen the node. It should not be set if you import nodes from an external source.

Import existing notes

Import existing notes from other mapnotes addons (MapNotes, MetaMap, NotesUNeed etc.)

Discussion

It was mentioned in the forum already - I think import our existing notes would be a great feature. Personally I have a lot of notes about questgivers and vendors... I just hate to lose them.

Ydrisselle 08:52, 14 November 2006 (EST)

Another critical feature to put in before this goes live (I'm not using the Notes feature of Cartographer currently because of the lack of importing). There will definitely be a lot of converts to Cartographer if there is some way of importing notes from other popular map note mods (MapNotes, MetaMap, CT_MapMod, etc.).

Zidomo 11:59, 20 November 2006 (EST)

Definitely a must have. I've got a year and a half of notes stored inside MapNotes. I'd really hate to lose them.

Jayhawk 07:34, 23 November 2006 (EST)

You can download notes from this site to import into MapNotes or similar addons. It would be great to have an import feature for this... World Of Warcraft Map Tool (Beta) --Loxara 03:39, 31 December 2006 (EST)

Complex Waypoint Pathing

Upon arrival at a waypoint a new waypoint is selected based on the user's goals. Possible applications: delivery quests, returning to quest givers, farming herb & mine nodes.

Opon arrival to a waypoint (<5 yd) the Ace event CartographerWaypoints_WaypointHit is fired.

Discussion

I've heard this one a lot on forums and irc and thought I'd add my notes here. Complex applications like this probably belong in another mod. Karl The Pagan 14:33, 28 January 2007 (EST)

Party/Raid Death Mapnote

Map Notes Side List

I would like to have a translucent side list on right side of the map like Metamap for map notes. When the note name is clicked on, it pings the map to show you where the note is.

Discussion

This would make finding notes on the map much easier when there are many of them. It can be very time consuming to mouse over every note to find the right one.

Instance Map Menus

Small gripe with this addon, would it be possible to change the dropdown menus for instance maps on the world map page to a proper list rather than buttons, similar to the way the default map handles zone selection? The red button is a bit misleading, considering they throw a list at you. INerd 06:26, 12 June 2008 (EDT)
