I think this is EFFING RUDE and ballsy... for one, your client doesn't find or update anything form wowinterface.com, who has also pulled this BS. Your client has no 'launch wow' button. Basically, both you and wowinterface.com has made a very simple and efficient way to play useless and I for one am insulted and pissed off. GOOD EFFING JOB. I suppose it worked tho eh... I now have to use your client to update those addons which are here.
Someone is going to have to show me this WowMatrix client everyone is talking about. The one I use shows the author of the addon as well as has a link to the official site for every single addon. If you send them an email pointing out they are linking an older version of an addon than the newest available, they fix it usually within the day, sometimes in just a couple of hours. This is either a different Wowmatrix than I'm reading about here, or the site admins of Curse and Wow Interface are posting outright lies to gain sympathy with their users.
Now I respect the right of Curse and Wow Interface to the ad revenue from their banner ads to pay for their bandwidth, and of addon authors to ask for donations as a reward for their hard work. I also agree that sometimes you need to post important information for the operation of the addons like "you have to delete your old directory before installing the new version". But the downloaders Curse and Wow Interface have come up with bypass all of this every bit as much as does WowMatrix, but they don't work half as well AND they only work for their particular site. The great thing about WowMatrix is you can update all your addons from one updater. Now if Curse and Wow Interface could get together and "stop the evil Wow Matrix", why can't they get together and work something out with Wow Matrix so everyone's concerns are dealt with? It seems to me that it would be in everyone's interest to do it that way. Failing that, they could come up with their own unified updater that WOULD have authors' permission to post their work, etc, etc. The best way to put WowMatrix out of business would be to offer a better product than they do.
"wowmatrix was the best, you could click a link to go to the authors site, which I always did when updating just to see the patch notes or whatever"
But those authors didn't give permssion to wowmatrix to serve thier addons.
"restricting it was lame and pointless."
They didn't restrict wowmatrix, they just let wowmatrix use their own bandwith to power that "great" updater of thiers...nothing more.
Now they just need to convince the authors to let them host thier addons (but given the bad faith wowmatrix has shown to the addon community, I don't think too many authors will)

Wowmatrix was stealing and when the people they were stealing from finally locked their door, you get mad at the victims?
And then you say you're going to boycott the people that are giving their hobby to you for free?
That'll teach'm won't it
Wowmatrix was uber end of discussion. Never did I update addons so fast and smooth as I did with wowmatrix, and as it appears I won't experience that again, until wowmatrix is back and working, which I REALLY hope is going to happen. All of you who stopped wowmatrix = bastards.

lamentthelock Apr 19, 2009 at 07:00 UTC - 0 likesCurse client for Mac is made of pure fail. At least wowmatrix, and previously WAU, were fit-for-purpose. Ho-hum, back to manual downloads for me.
