170 - AltName Module guild-roster importing from non-alt ranks
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have a character's name somewhere in their guild note
2. Make them not ranked as an "alt"
3. Use the "guild roster import" option in the AltNames module
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output for someone not ranked as an alt is that there are no changes to their display name.
What actually happens is a duplicate of their name is shown as if they were an alt.
What version of the product are you using?
3.2.10
*IMPORTANT* -> Can you reproduce the problem when ONLY Prat is running?
Yes
Do you play on US or EU. What language do you use?
US, English
Do you have an error log of what happened?
Nope
Please provide any additional information below.
Just using myself as an example, my character name is Gilora and my guild note is Gilora(Erik). I am the GM of the guild (more importantly, not ranked as an alt), and when I import alt names from the guild roster and say something, it shows up as "[Guild] (Gilora) Gilora: sample text here"
I believe this started happening after r384: Changed paths:
M /trunk/modules/AltNames.lua
fix the guild import so that it only imports actual guild members from the guild note, not random crap

Vilkku Sun, 01 Nov 2009 05:26:53I saw that this was addressed, but before you close this ticket, have you thought about an option to select a guild rank, and only give alt names to members of that rank? In some cases, I end up with mains being handled as alts of alts.

Gilora Tue, 27 Oct 2009 20:46:31Ah yes, that's right.
I could try truncating the name a little bit but the main reason I have the main's name in the guild note of the main character itself is for consistency/sorting (so when I sort by guild note the main character is listed with all the alts).

sylvanaar Tue, 27 Oct 2009 19:40:17I think the problem you are reporting really is that it is importing a character as an alt of itself.
The ideal case is to have the first word of the guild note be either 1) the name of another character in the guild, or 2) a word that is not the name of another character in the guild.
