19 - Material cost prices are listing unsensible values
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Jewelcrafting trade window
2. check material cost on any epic gem recipe
3. While making sure that you have just finished scanning the auction house with latest auctioneer
What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Material prices in the range of 100 / 200g i get 20g based upon a vendor resale, the purchase cost fuction seems to be broken.
What version of the product are you using?
79 release in combination with the latest auctioneer, ( 5.5.4293b )
Do you have an error log of what happened?
When switching to stats purchase value :: It shows only once, afterwards switching back and forth has not new errors.

For the rest no errors show except the broken value's ( i assume this may have to do with a broken fix you may have implemented upon the request to overide ah material costs when there are vendor prices available aswell, This was done on a recent ticket Not sure about that though, ticket i'm referring to is #13) Since those gems are not to be bought from vendors without the use of emblems they shouldn't list vendor prices. Currently all gems list vendor resale prices as material cost wich is not that usefull. The same problem exists with alchemy, herbs are shown for vendor resale prices even though their price levels are above that.
Please provide any additional information below.
I have tried setting the cost basis menu to all sorts of different auctioneer options. Rescanned the ah a couple of times, dumped all auctioneer price data and did a full new scan. Problem persists Please fix this, it was working fine in 72, but as of upgrading to 79 its broken.
Steps taken by myself to fix this, Reinstall the addon, remove all data from wtf including ah scan data, then do a full rescan of that data, ( in case of a corrupt database ) Note sell prices list just fine its only affecting the material cost price, the whole purchase value seems to be missing, and can't be accessed from the menu's
tried running the addon without any gathered data ( completely emptied out all wtf data from auctioneer ) it doesn't show the sell prices anymore yet still shows the same gem mat cost prices.
Tested with an other completely freshly installed scandata after i reinstalled the auctioneer addon. Problem still persists, Including wrong price info on the mat cost of alchemy items. New error popped up again when trying to switch from purchase cost to resale and back.
Strangely enough now it does list accurate prices for epic gems, it does now show market value in their purchase cost. All other gems ( rare and uncommon ) still show for resale values, Same with alchemy.

carnifex82 Sun, 30 Aug 2009 02:13:13I am using it at the moment and it's all working perfectaly again.
Anyway, if you find any other bugs and crap that you could use someone else to test for you just drop me a mail,
( if you can't get it from my login on this webbie then give me some other way of contacting you as i rather not have my mail listed in public view )
Thanks for helping out and "fixing" my issue. :P I'm back at an easy 1500 gold a day income since lsw started working properly again. A lot less mistakes in my crafts that net losses. Noth that its that much a problem, even selling some items at a loss helps discourage competition to the point they quit and you can raise your prices again. So it wasn't that bad. Current little problems with lsw gave me full controll of the gem market on my server again. Still, knowing what to list, how much profit to make on the items and knowing when not to sell a batch and rather buy out the sellers is good for easily 30% of my revenue a day. And for the 10 minutes it takes me with working lsw thats still a decent amount of gold made.

lilsparky Thu, 27 Aug 2009 04:18:06oh, gotcha. yeah, that's why i tend to use the resale value for reagents rather than the reagent cost. that was the originally the only method -- cost was how much you could sell the raw materials for. i added purchase cost as an option for people who were interested in the cost from the standpoint of leveling a profession.
if that's your orientation for skill costs, then use the resale value for your cost basis and all those funny numbers go away and instead green gems are valued at what they currently sell for in the ah rather than lsw trying to figure out some sneaky scheme to get them cheaper.

carnifex82 Wed, 26 Aug 2009 23:51:33the comment about the blog was a joke, i was referring to greedygoblin.blogspot.com the author is on a crusade against M & S ( morons and slackers ) one of the things he fulminates against is the concept "free" stuff in wow.
Like alchemists that have herbalism as a side profession. They sell their potions & flasks way below market values generating a nett loss. Because in their mind they got the materials for free when farming them. They forget to account for the fact that they could have sold the uncrafted materials in the auction house aswell. A similar mistake when it lists the green gems as 0 cost from prospecting titanium.
Prospecting for prior determined results is simply to much of a gamble. You can invest in buying ore and expect a certain value of gems to be returned, but prospecting to get one particular gem actually yields much lower droprates. Something that isn't taken into account by enchantrix. Sure you'll get the average value it lists from prospecting but the chance that a chalcedony might actually drop is much lower then the chance on a "green" lvl gem.

lilsparky Wed, 26 Aug 2009 18:07:13my function for availability is based on the same function that informant uses in its "sold by x mechants" line. the recent code fix changes that to also look at the cost to verify that it's getting a real cost value. of note is that there are actually two ways to get costs from informant and they seem to return different results for these special items.
lemme think about how i could add additional "forward" processing for item values. i'm kind of afraid it might spiral off into more quirky numbers, tho. if you think prospecting gives some odd results, just imagine if it then picked the most profitable cuts for all those gems regardless of how well they sell (cuz lsw doesn't really know that).
i think i need to wrangle the residual prices a bit more before i delve into that kind of stuff. as it stands, the reagent cost pricing scheme is still somewhat experimental as far as i'm concerned. it might give you some good ideas, but i tend to think of the resale value as being a bit more legit as a cost pricing scheme. i'll look for that blog you mention to see if it's can shed some light...

carnifex82 Wed, 26 Aug 2009 13:11:34Well my informant tooltips strongly disagree with you on vendor avaiability ( it lists a number of merchants where it can be bought, but does not list any prices )
Lsw is ignoring those prices now meaning that the last fix worked. I'll try and change some settings to see if i can get the green gems working properly now. However changing from market to minimal buyout largely throws off results. It will list the lowest buyout only, and not consider quantities. in general there are only a few available at that pricelevel before the prices goes up.
I agree that currently green gems are a side effect of prospecting ores for blue or epic ones. However i would like to have the option to decide weather i want to sell those low level gems uncut or cut them. There still is a large market for a couple of uncut green gems. Namely to transmute to earthsieges / Skyflares or to use in the cooldown thing for blue gems. In general cut green gems sell for 1 / 4 gold in the ah with up to 20 / 30 for perfect cuts, but that is a very limited market. I'd like to be able to see how much i could buy or sell those gems for ( stacks of 20 still sell for up to 30 / 50gold making the gems still worth 1.5 / 2.5 gold. As said some cuts sell for less then that so i'd rather filter them out. Obviousely with the filosophy that you'll get them for "free" anyway they are all pure profit. As LSW now lists. however regarding "free" stuff in that way is an economical error, see gevlons blog for a whole explenation about how stuff in wow is never free. I'd like it to list a value.
Let me know if i can be of further help to you.

lilsparky Wed, 26 Aug 2009 06:46:25i think we're narrowing down the problem. it would seem that informant is a bit schizophrenic with it's determination of what a vendor item is. the availability function was actually implemented at my request, tho it was a somewhat off-hand request. i'll see how they intend to treat the "limited" concept. for me, only the blue gems are being listed as available from vendors. not sure if that's because they haven't yet added the new epic gems or whether it's because they fixed the epic gems to not be listed...
it turns out, also, that lsw would prioritize lib periodic table for vendor availability, whereas i thought it was giving informant priority. since i have libpt installed, it has hiding these informant errors. i've adjusted it now to only use libpt as a fallback. i might be convinced to change this, but i think informant is generally more up-to-date than libpt since it's more widely in use and more obvious about its data integrity (since it slaps everything in tooltips).
you should be able to tell the cost system to only consider recipes that you can personally craft. i treat de'ing and milling and prospecting as recipes, so selecting personal craftability only should eliminate non-jc's being told to prospect for gems.
the prospecting ore x 4 is actually prospecting ore 4 times, you should see that the material requirements are 20 ore (1 prospect takes 5 ore). and yeah, it's telling you that the cheapest way to get a green gem is to prospect titanium to get it because you're likely to get other gems as well that you can then sell. it's kind of an intrinsic problem with considering craftability of reagents. you could think of it as "any price for a green gem is too much" given the current market for titanium. if you switch the cost basis to "resale cost" then you should get a normal market value for what a green gem sells of on the ah. just make sure you don't have the option to always consider crafting enabled.
i do need to figure out some means to adjust the resale value for residual reagents. it might be as simple as factoring in ah cut and maybe some throw in a deposit number to account for missed sales. that might be enough to tip things back into normal ranges. also, i'd really like to consider the current ah scan to consider only the items available. so if there's no titanium, then don't bother telling me to prospect it. "min auction buyout" as a cost function might help to alleviate some of these problems since at least the prices would be accurate, even if the quantities aren't (it would assume the min buyout price represents the price for an unlimited number of those items)...
whew... long post.

carnifex82 Wed, 26 Aug 2009 01:08:06Also my informant tooltip lists something different from yours,
blue lvl gems are being sold by 5 merchants at 0 coins, they are bought by merchants at 3 gold each.
Epic lvl gems are being sold by 1 merchants at 0 coins, they are bought by merchants at 5 gold each ( merchant count here is off it should be at least 2, the emblem of heroism quartermaster in dalaran, and one guy in the jc shop selling all the rings of the kirin tor and such )
It seems that last addition to the VendorAvailability function fixed my issues with blue and epic gems.
Now if you can only help me to "fix" the ah price for green gems?
Basically an option to ignore residual materials or ignore prospecting / craftability would fix that i think. Currently LSW does not take into account my own craftability in alchemy for meta gems either, in cutting meta gems it lists the purchase or resale value of those gems instead of listing the price for the materials being used.
By the way, was my information from the last two posts in any way helpfull? or should i just shut up and stick to describing the problem for you instead of staring at hyroglyphic code for 3 hours?

carnifex82 Wed, 26 Aug 2009 00:54:41Running auctioneer 5.6.4404 ( as from infMain.lua ) INFORMANT_VERSION = "5.6.4404"
implemented both lines,
Epic gems list reasonable values on both purchase and resale as cost basis, Blue gems idem
only strange thing the only vendor item returned while opening jewelcrafting is "item 27860 is a vendor item Purified Dreanic water"
And green gems are messed up awfull now. LSW lists their cost as a negative number 100 or something, on mousing over the tooltip it lists its source as prospecting titanium ore x4 ( should be 5 in my opinion, you can't prospect 4 ores ) then it shows a detailed list thats weighed i guess, it lists epic gems there as a value of between 10 / 20 depending on the exact one. ( seems to be the result of the weight asigned to it ) Titanium ore lists as a correct market value and the result seems to be negative due to the residual value being higher then titanium ore cost price.
These figures might be correct, but i'd rather have it show me current market value of the green gems in the ah instead of possible prospecting results from titanium.
On the bright side, both blue and epic gems are now listing values from the auctioneer module rather then the informant data.
( it does NOT show me blue or epic gems as vendor items though ( in the lines to default chat frame ), the only thing showing up as a vendor item is the outland manadrink, used by two recipes for pearls )
unfortunately i can't do any extensive testing right now as it has passed 03.00 and the servers have shut down for maintanance.

lilsparky Tue, 25 Aug 2009 20:45:41running 5.6.4399 auctioneer (just downloaded it):
the jewelcrafting blue gems come up as being vendor items. the informant tooltip says they're sold by 2 merchants. epic gems are not coming up as vendor items and are not indicated as such in the informant tooltips.
you can add this line to the informant support lua code: (i'd be interested to see if this version of informant differs from yours, so try this before updating auc).
right before the "return true" line (around line 25 or something)
that will tell you which items are being identified as vendor items.
i've modified the check being used to determine the vendor availability from informant to account for these items:
that would replace the line:
with the item report, you should be able to quickly recognize when lsw is being told by informant that an item is available from a vendor.

carnifex82 Tue, 25 Aug 2009 16:37:04note 2 market values aren't wrong, what changes is market prices, since unfortunately the market value is above vendor prices, yet the minium buyout is sometimes below it i get constantly changing results.
I have made lsw working again by simply changing your informant hook to always return verdor item as a false. It now completely disregards all informant data and hence only shows market values. Should you create some fix in your informant hook please write it here, i can manually update the corresponding files and test it. It saves you a ton of broken releases on curse for sure :P
Currently the purchasing and resale prices are hovering around 12g in my server, that is what is creating the issues and seemingly spawning bugs all the time. If the market changes just a bit all results are immediately changing to vendor as the cheapest source where in other cases the ah is just below it and it does list stuff for the ah prices.
