Grid

485 - Indicators Profile

== What is the feature you'd like to see added to Grid?
I think it would be a great addition to Grid to be able to have different "Indicator" profiles. Let me explain. Currently, each profile holds the settings for everything, from frame settings, to colors, priorities, statuses, etc.

Many people play end-game with different characters and use Grid with them all, usually with either a global profile or individual profiles, which hold all of the settings. Anytime something is changed that affects all of the different profiles, one has to re-do the individual settings for each character.

My proposition is to split profiles in two groups: the baseline settings (positioning, size, colors, other global settings), and "indicators" - what shows up where. This way, all characters will easily share the baseline settings, but each have their own set of indicator profiles, making it easy to make changes across all characters while keeping the individual settings.

== Why do you think this feature should be added to the Grid core instead of a plugin?
I think it's a core enhancement due to dealing with profiles.

How often do you make major changes to your "baseline" settings? It's an interesting idea, but the amount of work involved in rewriting Grid to handle "layered" profiles - not to mention the amount of confusion it would cause to many users - is simply not justified by the small benefit it would grant to a few users.
